I am watching the SEC championships in swimming, and I haven’t seen a single swimmer from LSU. Does LSU no longer have men’s or women’s swimming?

The program isn’t great. Need a facility upgrade in the worst way.

I have a friend that has 2 sons that were very good swimmers, both went to Auburn. I asked both why they went there even though their father went to LSU and they both said the facilities weren't close, Auburn was much better.

Our facilities are very outdated...
They tried to get athletics and rec to agree on updating our facilities but the two lsu departments could not agree so we got a lsu lazy river instead...
With such outdated facilities we can not attract recruits...
it is an expensive sport for a college due to the facilities... we should consider just stepping away ...

Just take the Lutcher High School team and let them go compete as LSU.

Hard to swim with a beer in your hand.

Not really, I’ve done it for years. You just swerve into other lanes a lot is the problem.

They got a great freshman, hopefully that can help with recruiting. What I mean by that is they really developed him this year, he wasn’t sec champ caliber coming out of high school. Need facilities so bad, might get some traction with Woodward, but that’s a very tough fight to get funds for, even for the AD.

I’ll play dumb on this one: why are swimming facilities so expensive?

Ever looked into an I ground pool at the house? Now multiply that by a school like LSU asking for it to be built.

I’m not really sure if it’s the expense or that swimming and diving isn’t a revenue generating sport. Other schools have aquatic centers with multiple indoor, outdoor pools, most having a competition pool with systems built in place to cut down on wave reflection (cut time). LSU has one pool 35 year old pool.

S&D also only has 9.9 and 14 scholarships for men and women respectively, which makes it difficult to recruit since if out of state/international athletes take a bulk of those then you have to rely on in state swimmers to fill the holes and Louisiana isn’t really known for competitive swimmers.

All good points. I think a number of schools with really great facilities have saved some money by having their competition pools essentially share an engineering infrastructure (and maintenance cost) with their rec sports programs.
