Why are so many now complaining about the lack of running game?

People this is what the majority of us have wanted to see out of an LSU offense for the last decade. What was always the biggest complaint on offense? We dont utilize our talent and get the ball to our playmakers in space. Well who are our top playmakers on offense right now?

These 3 in no particular order. Combined with an outstanding QB.

Marshall
Chase
Jefferson

Then after them maybe CEH? Maybe Moss, Sullivan, Dillon, Palmer?

Point is the majority of our playmakers are at wide receiver with a quarterback more than capable of getting them the ball so it's ok to pass the ball 40+ times a game if other teams cant stop it. Next season if Emery and TDP emerge as the playmakers we think and hope they will then the running backs will get more touches and the running game will be more productive.

I know to a lot of fans it may be worrisome to be deviating from what we know as LSU fans. But what we haven't known is an offense averaging over 50 points a game through 3 games and its damn nice to see. A lot of times change can bring about fear. But there's nothing to fear or be worried about watching an LSU offense actually use it's best playmakers. It sure beats the alternative to constantly banging our head against the wall watching the offense struggle to get out of it's own way. When was the last time you felt like an LSU offense was going to score on offense everytime it has the ball? That's how I feel watching this offense.

So stop the worrying and complaining and instead sit back relax and enjoy the show that is the 2019 LSU offense.

It has more to do with the Oline blocking for the run game

I'm not concerned about the play-calling. I love it. I'm concerned about how ineffective our run game is when we do run the ball. We're currently 13th in the SEC in Yards per carry and 13th in yards per game. That's not going to cut it.

I don't think there are "so many" complaining about it. A few here and there. Anyone with any complaints about the offense to date is probably a total mouth-breather.

A one dimensional offense, even a great one dimensional offense. can be stopped by a good defense. We haven't seen one of those yet. At some point we will have to run the football to win. With the lead and 5 minutes left vs Bama, needing a couple of first downs to ice the game, you don't want to be singing it all over the place, third and 17 vs Texas notwithstanding

I’m not a complainer about the offense but not having any semblance of a running game is a cause for concern. I’m not sure how it wouldn’t be.

Dont know if it's "Complaining" as much as stating a fact the run game has been weak through first few games, all under 4 yards a carry.

TDP and Emery just need more touches, and the OL clearly hasn't figured out how to run block that well yet from shotgun.

We have been wanting to see a more balanced offense. Going from one end of the spectrum to the other is not good.

The way we are able to spread the ball around to so many different targets with our passing game makes it less of a concern for me than it may have been. I also believe that once our freshmen get their legs under them, these concerns about the running game will be a distant memory and our running game will be more than adequate.

Complaining about wanting more balance when we're Top 10 in the country in yards per game and points per game isn't going to get many people on your side.

The offense is doing great right now, it would be even better though if the backs could get going a little more, I dont think they need more carries altogether, just need to be more productive on the ones they get.

People do realize we are learning a new offense and linemen are blocking more zone than before right?

I will btch when we line up in the i and get our sht pushed in. This is the part of the schedule to work on new things on offense and defense which has had a ton of players playing more minutes than they are use to.

But why do you say that's not going to cut it when we are averaging 50 points a game? And I get it's not against SEC defenses yet but I dont see it changing much. Other teams simply cant guard our receivers. And I think the low rushing numbers are a byproduct of that and CEH being an average back. Hes capable and serviceable but not the talent we typically have at the position combined with a very average O-line so it's ok to use the other weapons on offense that we do have.

I think it's nice to see what is seemingly a new philosophy on offense of playing to where the strengths are. The strengths are QB and receivers so use them. Like I said in my OP if Emery and TDP become what we hope then I think the running game will become more of a focus. But to me I'm not worried about being balanced. If we score 50 I dont care if we threw it 50 times and ran it 20. Whatever allows us to score the most points I'm for it.

This is concerning, and we only really run one running play. I have to think (hope) that we're going to get more creative on the run offense as we go.

As for "balanced" run/pass, that's not a biggie. Do what the defense can't stop.

If we were as efficient in the run game as we are in passing right now then it wouldn't have needed fixing.

A good running attack and a solid passing attack doesn't have to be mutually exclusive. Clemson, Alabama, Oklahoma, Ohio St. are all teams that are able to maintain both. Sure, one aspect may be better than the other, but LSU is currently 105 in rushing. This, despite having essentially the same OL from last season and at least one of the primary RB's from last season (and it's not like Brossette was a generational back)

NO ONE is upset that LSU's passing game has exploded. But having the 105th ranked rushing attack seems a bit low. I can't imagine the OL and back completely forgot how to run the ball simply because LSU has finally decided to bolster the passing attack.

IMO, I'd like to see other RB's play more. CEH is obviously reliable and the coaches trust him in the passing game. He is stronger than people realize and is excellent in making people miss in tight spaces. That said, he lacks any real burst and spends a lot of time searching for a hole rather than just hitting it quickly (see guys like Etienne and Jacobs for Bama last year). Maybe just a foot in the ground and get upfield approach is better than a lot of lateral movement searching for a crease.

By why is there this belief that balanced= better. Our top 4 offensive players are the QB and 3 receivers so it only stands to reason to be the best offense that we can be we would lean more heavily on the passing game. It's just playing to our strengths which is good to see.

the pass game will open up run game later WHEN we want/need to run in tougher matchups.

O is focusing mainly now on having a lights out pass game. smart choice by him. we were spread run first with matt like gus and CUm and now we are a spread pass first O.

runs are coming. patience.

Last week it was the defense.
This week it's the running game.

I think next week, we'll get upset about special-teams: probably kick-offs going out of bounds... when the Tigers are up by 3 scores.
