Who starts at LB this weekend?

I would love for Baskerville to get one spots simply because of his experience, leadership, and ability to defend the pass if anything else.
I know it was southern but the game last week was an impressive showing by MB.
As for the other spot, Penn would be my preferred option. I also hope we can continue to find ways to get HP on the field as well. From an athletic/speed standpoint, he’s one of the better LBs we recruited in a while.

After last season I thought Baskerville was a certainty to be a starting LB. Jones,Penn, Weeks, Fields, Perkins? Who really knows?

If you want athleticism/speed, you keep Jones on the field all game.
He's far and away our best LB against the pass.

I hope it’s Baskerville. I feel like he’s been improving constantly since the midway through last season. Was shocked when he wasn’t a starter week 1&2, and never heard the reasoning (suspension, better players, etc.).
When he’s in, he reminds me of Debo. He’s fast, makes hits, and his recognition has increased with experience.

That’s a different take, Jones looks slow as hell out there imo

Given the opponent, let's go Baskerville and Jones

Baskerville is the best LB on the roster right now. He needs to be on the field a lot.

Need to see Baskerville and Perkins out there together. Potentially our best pair.

Interesting - from what I have seen, he is our 4th best linebacker. Nothing that I have seen from him gives me any confidence against MSU.

Jones keeps getting caught looking in the backfield while guys are running right by him. I don’t think it’s an athleticism issue, maybe he looks slow because he reacts slowly? Whatever the case he was our worst LB in coverage vs FSU.

He didn't start because he was supposed to be on 2 game suspension. They appealed and won but he hadn't had much work with the 1's, that's why they limited him in the first 2 games. Kelly said earlier this week that he will start. And Penn will probably be opposite him.

quote:he hasn’t been great against the run. Baskerville wouldn’t be a huge drop off if any in coverage.

I’d imagine it’s a mix of the 3 (jones, Penn, baskerville)

Maybe it's not being comfortable in the new system because he was rated one of the top cover LBs in CFB when he transferred here.

gonna be in dime most of the game
I would go rotation of Jones, Baskerville and Penn for most of snaps at LB

Baskerville needs to be on the field. Not sure how the coaches can justify not starting him.

quote:Yeah, and coverage was said to be his strength transferring in. Maybe, it’s the mike lb position itself that doesn’t allow him to play free? I don’t know, but I hope they put in the 2 best in pass coverage.

Cold be, it’s either that or a bad habit he’s just fighting against.

Baskerville is the best ILB on the team. High IQ. He really just understands the position. He needs to go ahead and take over those leadership reigns too. I know they’ve wanted Jones to be that guy like they did with Mike divinity after Devin white left, but he’s not that guy, pal. He’s not that guy. Too slow and ILB is just too hard. Penn should be the other starter. Perkins is going to have his time and that’ll be dependent on how quickly he embraces film study. That’ll be up to him, but there’s a lot that goes into being an ILB. Play recognition (if you’re a second off then that’s probably a first down you just gave up), being strong enough to get off blocks but athletic enough to guard RBs, being the best tacklers on the field. It’s harder than most think.

It’s both. Watch him run dude he’s incredibly slow.
