Obviously the best offense was last year. I think the best defense could have been the 1982 Defense, they led the nation most of the year.

2011 was the best. But that 2003 defense was excellent after that UF loss.

I think the obvious answer is 2011, but, just for fun, I'll throw out 2006 as well. Even though it was a largely forgettable game, the absolute dismantling of Arizona to start the season is seared into my brain. I thought Laron and Tyson Jackson were going to kill someone.

2011 is the obvious answer. 2003 is another one that sticks out.

But I will add 2010 to the mix, simply because we only lost 2 games that season - each by within one score - and our offense was absolutely putrid.

The correct answer is 1962

6 shutouts
34 points given up on the whole season (including a shutout in the Cotton Bowl of #4 Texas)

Total Defense avg 206 yards per game allowed

The last 4 games of LSUs 2019 season is one of the most impressive defensive performances I have ever seen. Especially first half performances when there was even a chance for the opposing team to win.

The 2011 Defense was insane. 11.2 PPG. Only 265.2 YPG.

2003 only allowed over 20 points once in a 55-24 blowout. Held OU to 14 points AND scored the game winning TD. 11.3 PPG only 255 yards per game

So I would go

1A. 2011
1B. 2003
2. 2006 (245 yards 12 PPG)
3. 2004
4. 2005
5. 2016

I am going limit this to teams I’ve watched and can remember enough about.

2010 - 2012 saw some really, really, good LSU defenses (with 2011 being the best of the group). The fact that LSU was able to go 32-4 (regular season) during that stretch is almost a minor miracle considering the best they ever finished in total offense during those years was 70th in the nation

1982 is a great choice, people would have to be old enough to remember the era.
We held fricking Nebraska to 21 points. That defense was NFL worthy.

2011 was a fantastic speed/penetration defense.
2003 was a brick wall.

LSU's got many elite defenses in it's history.

2003 and 2011 both amazing.

Slight edge to 2011 just because they faced more "modern" offensive teams. In '03 The SEC was still smash mouth for the most part.

The 1982 defense was a monster. Every starter played in the NFL. If Arnsparger had been the coach, that team had National Championship level ability, on both defense and offense.

was coming to post this......2011 was electric, and created opportunity when the badger came into his own........but that 2003 defense, just seemed like if a team gained 2 yards, it was a let down.

Point taken, but counterpoint- 2003 Oklahoma averaged 43 pts (42.9) a game, had the Heisman winner at QB, was supposed to be unstoppable and we played them in a dome.

1958 was pretty good too.

2011 had a +30 TO margin I believe. If you combine defense and special teams, 2011 was off the charts.

Agreed. The fact that a Kelly led Oregon and a Holgerson led WVU are in those stats make 2011 even more impressive.
