All these hundreds of thousands of dollars. Where does it come from. I don’t think there are many wealthy boosters that would give up that kind of cash for a prospect that may stay 1 year.

And, oh yeah, Our Lady of the Lake Hospital.....

If this were an old fashioned Mr. Booster having someone drop off money at Smart's house, the FBI would not care . It's the shoe and apparel companies along with agents taking the place of the booster and essentially bribing the coaches.....saying , we'll get you this kid but you have to use our stuff or in the case of the agents, " we'll get you this kid, but you have to convince him to sign with our agency when he declares and for that we'll secure for you a handsome shoe contact.

These are the same people who give a shite ton of money to booster groups like TAF. Of course they would pony up a few dollars for these players.

But this case shows where else money is coming from. Shoe companies, sports agencies and anyone who has an interest in these players post college ball.

Mostly from apparel companies; Dawkins was an adidas bag man. The big apparel companies all want to see the biggest stars suiting up for programs wearing their gear. Having that Nike swoop on display every time Zion slams one home is big time advertisement.

I think Louisville’s contract with adidas when Pitino went down was for like 160 million dollars. Throwing in an extra 50k to get the best athletes in the nation to wear those uniforms is chump change to big time apparel companies.

I don't understand why wealthy people spend thousands of dollars on suites at college football games, but they do.

Money buys access and some people crave access.

You accomodate a 50,000 payoff for a kid, coach is going to return your calls, come let you view practice, etc. And maybe that kid will remember you down the road and legally support your business.

It use to be every time someone bought a rack of baby back ribs in Baton Rouge a Tiger got some shoes but I do not think it works that way anymore.

Wouldn't any contract with a shoe company go through the AD?

The team's shoes, sure. Not the contracts the players sign for the big bucks to wear Adidas gear in the NBA when they get out of school.
