You know it will happen just a matter of when. I say do it at the start of the next season.

Someone was telling me five years must pass first according to LSU standards.

I dont know if that's true or not.

I don’t think that’s true. Cannon’s #20 was retired in 1960. His last year was ‘59.

The same thing should apply in Burrow’s case. If you win a Heisman, your number should be retired. If you win a Heisman, break every record on the planet, and go undefeated, your number should be retired the instant you step off the field for the last time.

Cannon’s #20 was retired immediately and it should absolutely be the same way for Burrow.

I say this with only slight hyperbole.

It’s ridiculous a statue hasn’t been commissioned yet, much less a number retirement

You're wrong.

quote:

To have a jersey retired at LSU, an athlete must have completed intercollegiate competition for LSU a minimum of five years prior to nomination. Athletes must have demonstrated truly unusual and outstanding accomplishments, exceeding and in addition to all criteria used for Hall of Fame selection. The athletic performance must be considered unique, such as winning of a Heisman Trophy or National Player of the Year award, and should be based on the total LSU career. Athletes may also be considered for making dramatic impact on the popularity of his or her sport or for significant participation in positive change in LSU Athletics. Nominees must have a unanimous vote of support from the Hall of Fame committee.

So by that definition the 2023 season would be the earliest.

WTH are you talking about? That statement means that a period of 5 years must pass after a player is finished playing before they can be nominated for their jersey being retired.

List the players who wore the number 20 after 1959.

better:
an athlete's jersey number may not be considered for retirement prior to the fifth anniversary of the completion of his or her intercollegiate eligibility.

The existing verbiage makes it unclear as to whether an athlete must have played for the team for 5 years. Irregardless:) that language should never have made it to publication.

I have a feeling those rules will be bent a little given the circumstances...

They need to re-write it. They also need to retire his number at the start of the next LSU home game

Retire the Burrow jersey, not the number.

Do you want to lose a recruit because he can't be his favorite number?

Would you have turned down Fournette if he said I have to be #20 and it's retired?
