When we fired Les/ hired Ed, did we "trade up?"

Turns out Les was kinda creepy about women (a vice which Ed also seems to adopt).
But, despite having a head of stone and a refusal to deploy a passing attack, Les was a pretty good coach, winning nearly ten games a year.
He needed to go, but I don't think I ever saw one of his teams quit and they were uniformly physical.
Both have Title IX problems and neither were understandable in ordinary conversation.

Correct, now we need to move on from O before he takes us into the dumpster. O has high ceiling and a super low floor, Miles had a very high floor and and mid height ceiling. We have seen about everything we are going to see from O, the program can really only go down from here on a consistency lens. IMO we give O the option to retire this year with a substantial settlement, if he doesn’t take it we fire him.

I really like the idea of Napier, he has his hands deep in Louisiana recruiting and would stop anyone else from getting him. He is offensive minded and our fan base has decided that is the most important thing for them after 2019. I truly think this is the best course for the program. If we don’t get rid of O after this season because we needed to give him more time then shame on us. He hasn’t show that he was able to correct from last season, I assume he won’t this season but will be interested to see how it unfolds.

For me the question is, "What is the long term cost of the 2019 championship?" We do not yet know, but it appears that 2020 and 2021 are the minimum. What damage will LSU suffer in the long run for having hired Eddie?

Thats a great question, but my big concern is that colleges will have to adjust faster than ever from bad coaching decisions because of the 1 time transfer rule, a school can see a mass exodus overnight.

Les Miles was absolutely finished....

Both are bad in game coaches, Les was a better program manager.

is Ed better than Les at the end? Yes. Was he a good hire? No.

neither does going 5-5 OR losing season opener to UCLA.

Les got us Aranda
Who has O gotten?

ETA: I'm not a Lesticles licker like some on here. I was relieved when they got rid of him. Just never saw us keeping old O for this long.

He did a good job correcting the more egregious issues within the Miles era, but obviously has not been able to put his own stamp on the program.

Yes they can. The rule is unfortunate. I think it should go back to sitting out a year especially now that we have NIL. The same should be true for coaches who leave to go to a school of the same level.

Ed was good for 2019. We saw 2020 as an anomaly and now the writing on the wall for 2021. If we get ahead of this and fire him right after the Bama game, we might be able to lure away a good coach. I would say if we did this, it was all worth it. However keeping him one more season begins to make one think it might not have been worth it.

We did not.

Both Ed and Les won a Natty that they really didn’t have much to do with.

At least Les beat the teams he was supposed to.

One thing I’ll say about Ed that’s better than Les is he blew out the teams he was supposed to, more times than not anyway.

As much as a lateral move that was (at best), 2019 never would’ve happened under Les Miles. Hate him or not, O brought in Burrow and Brady and he deserves credit for that.

We never have a 5-5 season with Les.
