profession to inform the HC in advance so the HC can prepare for this possibility? These hires are program changing...

At least, this way way the HC can tell the AD, the players, the recruits in order to get ahead of the news and start the process.

or is this process driven by agents and lawyers?

I’m pretty sure Ed wasn’t completely shocked that one of the most highly regarded DCs in America received a nice job offer after a dominating performance in the national championship game.

I’m sure O knew and encouraged Aranda to go for it. It’s part of the business.

I’m sure Coach O knew he wanted a head-coaching job. I’m also sure he knew Joe Brady would want to return to the NFL, but he probably didn’t think it would be this soon.

It’s like any other job. If you have a good relationship with your boss , you keep him in the loop and don’t want to leave him in a bind.

If you hate his guts, you don’t even give 2 weeks notice. (See kiffin leaving aLLabama)

The one I’m confused about is Brady. This deal had to have been in place for a little while with Carolina. Yet, Coach O kept telling everyone Brady was staying and they were working on something. Somebody lied. Either Brady didn’t tell them, or Orgeron kept lying to the fans. I don’t really care, but it’s kinda weird.

Do you really think when we find out about something is the same time Orgeron found out about it?

Should he have taken time out of NC preparation to deal with this stuff?

I don’t get what you’re even suggesting.

No one lied. He never said he was staying. It was all ambiguous. You don’t rock the boat on the way to a perfect season.

It was clear Brady would leave if he got offered an NFL OC job. And by the time the media started picking up that the panthers were interested, they had offered him and LSU knew he was leaving.

They signed the contract with LSU, knowing it meant nothing, simply to try to lower the distraction of him leaving.

LSU had a national championship to win. Orgeron didn’t need his players worried about one of their coaches leaving for another job.

I get that, but he could have just said nothing, instead of trying to convince the world Brady was staying. It wasn’t like this was some huge distraction that needed to be addressed.

Perhaps because they deflected it from being so, no?

This almost always happens after a team wins a title, I think whoever O hires as replacements is truly key to keeping the momentum going forward.

Dominating second-half performance. LSU's defense was not dominant in the first half.

He didn't say that. He said that they were a step ahead of everyone, and they were.

But if the guy is dead set on returning to the NFL, then there's literally nothing LSU could offer him that would get him to stay. People just need to come to grips that this was a means to an end for Brady.

And that's ok. If you want talented coaches, you have to be ok with them using your job as a stepping stone.

All coaches lie in situations like this. It is part of the business.

Nobody lied! The deal in place was if Brady left, it would be for the nfl. Go read it.

Perhaps, it was simply a distraction that the team did not need, while prepping for the NCG.

Usually, people who need to know—know.

How? Orgeron was the only person keeping this stuff in the news. There were rumors about Carolina, but I don’t think anybody even believed that shite. Whatever, it just seemed weird how the whole thing was handled to me.
