What's the verdict on the post-Alan Dunn era?

Did LSU pitching suffer more without him this season? Just curious what the old guard thought of the impacts of his absence after a decade in the Tiger dugout.

No key arms got hurt, so I guess that's a plus.
But we also don't really have many key arms, so I guess that's a minus.

Coach Kelly was the national assistant coach of the year for a reason. I’ll refrain from making any judgements until he and CJJ get their arms in
Having said that, the bullpen management from these two this year has been nothing short of stellar

Yep. Extremely impressed with how they have managed it this year

As the old saying goes...you can make chicken salad outta...well, you know. I think this staff has gotten a lot out of the arms they inherited/brought over. Pitchers have a funny way of not looking so good when the opposing team gets 32 outs a game!! I would give this staff a B for overall staff management and utilization.
Dunn was awful...that's why he's at Arky St.!

Coleman is one of our best pitchers. He would have been the Saturday starter maybe even Friday night.

1000% true

I don't understand why a healthy Edward's and Colman never really got a shot at pitching. It's like JJ picked his guys and ran with them.

That’s the thing that has gone unnoticed this year. Our pitching is average and they are ranked in the top 5 in many SEC categories in pitching and have done amazing jobs shutting down studs

Javen Coleman’s left elbow begs to differ.
However, Kelly is doing just fine with what’s there.

I was never a fan of Alan Dunn so I am very happy with Kelly and the new pitching staff. I think next year we will have those starting arms we didn't have this year. And also Taylor, Dutton, Hasty, and Floyd will all be competing to start as well as they develop in the off season.

That's an interesting take. We had Nola, Lange, and Poche as a rotation with him. His effort along with Paul's fell way off at the end. Nolan Cain can get people to sign, but he wasn't good at evaluating pitching. Seems like you could have been a fan for a bit of his tenure, though.

You had Nola and Poche then Lange and Poche but you didn’t have Nola/Lange/Poche
Nola was drafted in 2014. Lange was a freshman in 2015.

The pitching is not average. The starting pitching is terrible but the staff as a whole is deep and talented. It’s just hard to rely on a bullpen for 15-20 innings every weekend. All it takes for one guy to be off like Rayzelman was yesterday and you lose a game.

Johnson and Kelly have done a remarkable job with what they inherited. It was way past time to give Dunn the boot.

The verdict is still out for me.
I've not been a big fan of the pitch calling.
I'm also not sure why certain guys weren't extended sooner to look at as starters. I understand their emphasis on back end innings, but I can't help but wonder what we'd look like with a rotation that included a more developed Reyzelman and Taylor to go with Hilliard.
