What's the real reason schools exaggerate the height of their players?

Reading the Advocate this morning, they list Myles Brennan as 6'5". I was standing very near Myles in church a few weeks ago, and he is nowhere near 6'5". Maybe 6'3" when he's standing up straight. Does making him 2 inches taller than he really is make him a better quarterback?

I remember plenty of these cases at LSU. I don't think Devin White is anywhere 6'1". Ali Highsmith was a shrimp.... maybe 5 '10", but was listed at 6 feet or 6'1". Jamauria Rasco was listed at 6'3' but he was barely 6 feet tall. Herb Tyler was 5'9" in heels but was always taller in the program.

So somebody explain it. What's the purpose of this fudging? It's not like they're fooling the NFL.

The NFL does it too. I've met Brees in person a few times and he's not 6' in tennis shoes.

Who knows, maybe they put the pads and cleats on and then do height and weight.

I'm pretty sure all sports do it. Not sure why. I don't suppose it really matters.

Sometimes they just ask the players to write it down and they fudge a little

It seems like everybody fudges their own height an inch or two. I don't know why we do it.

For football players - their NFL combine measurements are legit.

Anything else is like WWE or the circus. There's an inch or 2 added to seemingly everyone.

Actually, some NBA players have been known to underestimate their height (Kevin Durant). That said, the NBA draft combine's height without shoes is really the only accurate height you'll ever see for pro athletes.

UNC basketball use to do just the opposite by never listing any of their players over 7' foot tall.

Dean Smith thought it gave his team some king of psychological advantage. Whatever!

Btw, ever wonder what Shaq and Yao would look like standing next to Robert Wadlow.

This has been happening as long as I can remember, and that is going back to the old Jazz game programs in the 1970s. Sports information departments have been fudging numbers for ages.

Been that way in HS for years...at least when the HS programs use to have the weights and height of players. I "was 6'4 and 175. Reality was 6'2, 155.

This. We used to step on the scale with thermos full of water. Borrow everyones keys and add weight to the stats. Partly coaches wanted to intimidate the other team when they scouted us. We went 2-8 my sr yr so it didn't work.

Kevin faulk was listed as 5’10” 205 and he was 5’7” 190 or so at the combine

Drew Brees measured over 6’ at the combine. I have no idea why people think he is 5’10

Brees is very close to 6'-0"

Dee Anderson is not 6'-6" & Stephen Sullivan is NOT 6'-7"
