These numbers are truly getting out of control. And I hate FKing, so I'm not saying we need to be cheap. A line just has to be drawn somewhere.

the problem with F. King is that he doesn't realize that having a great football program, especially in the SEC, will help enrollment grow, national exposure for your school, etc.

you have to spend money to make money. and he dropped the ball not allowing them to get Fisher in 2015.

You can slice it any way you want, but A&M is saying that they think he’s worth that much money. If we don’t think he’s worth more than a glorified DLine coach then we have more issues than just that.

I agree that $3mil is outrageous. I just wish that our administration would get out of the "woe is me, we have no money" budget mentality, nut up and pay for a quality coaching staff. It seems that there is no commitment to the betterment of the program from the higher-ups.

Some of you are missing the point. This is the issue when your head coach has never run an offense or defense. Blows like this are tremendous. Look at how many coordinators Saban has been through.

But we hired O at a discount so we can pay the best coordinators

Aranda fits that bill, pay him or the whole o fiasco was bullshite like most of us knew from day 1

I agree out of control. If they bring the bank there is no way F King will sign off spending crazy money for DA.

Agreed. It puts you in a very vulnerable position year in and year out.

When you go cheap on a HC that can't fill a void on either side of the ball, you shouldn't have a problem spending $3MM on a DC.

It is. However you have that luxury to make that decision either way if you know that your head coach is competent coaching at leas ONE side of the ball. With jimbo or Herman or smart or Riley you know their respective sides of the ball will Be fine so you can go cheap on one side and pour in money to the other. Conversely if someone wants to drastically over pay you can let them walk knowing at least the other side of the ball will carry you.

Alabama is a perfect example.

Their applications, enrollment, and alumni donations have absolutely shot through the roof since Saban started dominating. This has given them better classrooms, better scholarships, better faculty, and allowed them to be choosier when it comes to student applications.

It has been a financial windfall.

In reality, Saban is worth like $40 million a year to the University of Alabama or something like that. Some SEC Rant posted article a couple years ago broke it down from an economist's point of view.

not that many. Kirby was there from 2008-2015 as DC (left for a HC job). McElwain was OC from 2008-2011 (left for HC job). Nussmeir was there from 2012-2013. Kiffin was there from 2013-2015 ("left" for head coaching job).

Saban's hasn't been through that many coordinators comparatively speaking. And his coordinators don't make lateral moves either. They leave for HC jobs

It inevitably will become the norm though, and this is one of the many reasons why this model of Cheap HC and expensive coordinators is broken. LSU is not keeping up with their competition, and it will inevitably catch up to them. Looks like it's just happening sooner than later

they said the same thing when the HC broke $1m. it is what the market says it is. either pony up or get out of the race

But you guys get pissy because Fking supposedly killed a deal with Jimbo that not one person has even been able to say was even on the table.

If there was, I have to assume they were asking for what tamu is paying. Possibly even more because of sate income taxes.

But now we are all supposed to be shocked at wanting to pay a DC chump change compared to what they would have had to shell out for Miles and Jimbo?

All you people do is contradict.

The line should be drawn, but in a way that crosses out O's name and puts Aranda's name at the top.

There are maybe 5 schools that can afford to keep up if the new bar for a top shelf coordinator is north of 3 million a year and a coach is north of 7.5 million. There are many head coaches in major conferences that don't make $3 million. A&M is just that desperate.
