What the hell is going on with our Baseball program???? Is it just me or does this look like a rerun from last year? LSU is one of the top athletic colleges in the country. There is no excuse for our Baseball and Basketball teams/programs to be looking this bad.

Maineri is running out of choices on who to throw under the bus. Trent simple can't recruit to save his life.

I can accept basketball being up and down, but not baseball. Something isn't right for sure. I don't know if it's leadership, coaching, or what, but it isn't talent. We have all the talent in the world and can't produce wins.

baseball is what it is baseball, but there are games you should win.

LSU is the Boston Redsox of college baseball. But I can't remember when LSU had as a team worse hitting.

Pretty much...

An this team just cannot hit. They have spurs where they get hits, but I don't know why they don't have a constant 6ish hit night.

I'm not emotionally invested in baseball, so I can give you the honest answer--the team just isn't very good this year. It happens. Teams have good years and good runs, and they have bad years and bad runs.

This team wasn't very good three weeks ago. People just didn't want to see it.

Full disclosure: I could never be this objective about football, so I'm not really judging.

this. do they play defense well? no

do they hit well? no

do they pitch well? at times

They were not good at the beginning of the season. they were depending on teams making 3-4 errors and beating themselves. they started facing stronger competition and the teams aren't making 3-4 errors beating themselves.

Florida doesn't.

Does Florida have more invested in Baseball than LSU?
How about baseball facilities?

There is no excuse for LSU to be where they are right now regarding baseball.
Should they contend for the NCAA national title year in and year out?
I don't think they should but there is enough invested in the program to be the one school in the entire NCAA to make a push every year.
A year such as this should never happen IMHO.

Off years are fine, and I don't think we "had" to get to Omaha this year. But that said last year was supposed to be our "down" year and this year is going even worse.

MJ2, I wouldn't say that a year like this should never happen. I think that's a little too extreme; however, I do agree that it shouldn't happen to LSU this often.

Any program is going to have ups and downs. LSU though when it comes to baseball(since the 90s) has been a strong force. There should be very few years where they do not make it to the CWS.

I'm not saying they should win the title every year but not making it to the CWS, much less a Super, is getting a little old.

Lulz, Florida has bad years.

No they don't. Look at the players on this team likely to be drafted in the top 10 rounds of the mlb draft this year as compared to two and three years ago. This team is raw and young and the upper classman are just not that talented outside of Mahtook and Nola.

Edit: Moreover...threads like this confirm that LSU has the most delusional fanbase in the country. I doubt there is another team in the nation that is two years removed from a national title and calls for the coaches head (in two sports - I admit to wanting Miles gone which looks like a mistake now). Hell, Bianco at Ole Miss has never even made it to Omaha and he is worshipped in Oxford. Augie Garrido at Texas has had many up and down years and is worshipped in Austin.

We will not get a better coach than Paul Mainieri...if there is one out there better, please name him and why he would come here...particularly with this delusional fanbase in place.

I think we're more talented than we're playing but by comparison, maybe not as talented as past teams, yet. We have a glut of young potential... we should be patient.

I posted a question a few weeks back, the day after Watkins dropped his last fly ball. I asked if his problem was isolated or if it indicated a broader lack of focus.

We're struggling with the space between the ears as much as we are the space between the lines.
