Wade was initially suspended from coaching in the 2019 NCAA tourney and then his contract with revised to make firing him later easier.

I think Miller was suspended for one game when his issues became public and was fired only after a few mediocre seasons. It’s worth noting that Arizona was a highly ranked team at the time.

Regardless, a bball program can turn around quickly. It’s not like football. Only need a handful of players.

LSU probably considered sitting out this year’s tourney for show, but that would be harsh for the current players. I think a 1-2 year postseason ban is likely.

Baylor had major infractions and player murder scandal and only got 3 years. Wade, though blindingly stupid, hasn't come anywhere near to what happened at Baylor.

5th place in PAC after winning the league 5 times in the 7 years prior. I’m not saying he was bad, but it was a tangible decline

The decline coincided with the NCAA lurking around the program though. They lost some big time recruits because of it.

Same thing is happening with ASU football. They've stuck by Herm so far, but assistant coaches have resigned or been fired. A lot of players entered the portal, and their recruiting class ended up being a disaster after all the decommitals.

Sticking by Wade would have just dragged this situation out longer. The NCAA actually had a paper trail this time, and they weren't going to fold like some believe. Woodward had to pull the trigger now.
