What Must Happen For Someone Other Than Joe Burrow To Win The Heisman Trophy

At this point, it’s all but a foregone conclusion, as evidenced by odds as imposing as 1/20 (courtesy of BetOnline.ag) set for the LSU quarterback’s chances – essentially a 95% implied probability of a Burrow victory. With just three Saturdays remaining until Heisman voters’ ballots are due, it would seem silly to wager on anyone but Burrow.
quote:
Might as well start with this point: Nobody is catching Burrow unless he stumbles before reaching the finish line. Right now, he’s on pace to break the NCAA single-season completion percentage record – Burrow’s 78.6% rate leads the 76.7% record set by Texas’ Colt McCoy of Texas in 2008 – and he ranks second nationally in passing yards (3,687), passing touchdowns (38) and points responsible for (248) while leading an offensive overhaul for a team that still sits atop the College Football Playoff rankings.
quote:
Burrow is seven touchdown passes away from breaking Drew Lock’s single-season SEC record (44 in 2017) and needs to average 294 passing yards in the next two games to reach the single-season SEC passing yardage record (4,275 yards by Kentucky’s Tim Couch in 1998) by the end of the regular season. As long as he performs at his “average” level for 2019, Burrow will run away with this thing.

When Ohio State blows out Penn St and Michigan, the media will pivot to Justin Fields. Book it.

Or shite the bed vs Georgia. Tua was the favorite going into the SECCG last year at -500, Murray was 2nd at +350. Tua played bad and got pulled meanwhile Murray threw for 379yds and 3TDs. Since the ballots were due the next day it was the last impression. Burrow has a "bigger lead" than Tua did but I don't think it's as wrapped up as people think. Buuuut, I also don't think there's any way in hell Burrow shits the bed against UGA so even if he's just not as spectacular he likely wins.

He has to finish strong. It’s human nature to want something fresh and the human CFB Media has been talking Joe Burrow for heisman since week 2. If he stumbles at all and Fields finishes strong he can lose it. Don’t be surprised if championship weekend is pitched as Joe vs Fields for the Heisman.

Nah, like ive already said...there is almost nothing he can do from here on out that can cost him the Heisman. The national media actually likes the guy and is pulling for him.
LSU vs Ohio State in the finals with LSU having a Heisman Winning QB is what college football wants and needs.

Hopefully somebody already told him to scrub his social media of anything before New year's this year.

Hopefully he has an intern doing it for him.

It should be 100% over.
But realistically, Fields will get too much credit over the next 3 games.
Statistically what Joe is doing with the football, especially with downfield throws has literally never been seen before.
He has been absolutely fantastic throwing the football, but if he is slowed down by UGA or TAMU and Fields continues playing well then it may end up way closer than it has any right to be.

The only thing that might stop him is a catastrophic accident similar to Tua but that still might not be enough to stop him from winning the Heisman.

Nah hes already proven to be the best player in college football. Injury or not, from here on out. Joe Burrow is the best player in college football. And its not even close.

What is crazy is the next two games are against teams in disarray and Joe Jugular could easily pat his stats.

It really is a shame how it's become more of a popularity contest and the back end of the season is far more weighted than the entire season. Isn't that basically how Tua lost it last year?

1. Obviously Joe needs to have solid games the rest of the way. I think the Georgia game will be very important. The media is fickle and will turn on him if LSU loses that game and/or he doesn’t play well.
2. I think you are going to be hearing a lot about Justin Fields the next few weeks. With OSU playing Penn State and Michigan, he has a couple of big stages to bolster his candidacy. So obviously it will help Joe if Fields doesn’t show out in these games.

It's exactly how Tua lost last year, and he was the more deserving player.
Difference this year though is how big of a gap Joe has currently.
If you look at the stats Joe has and how he has earned them, big time games/schedule/throwing the ball down field vs dink and dunk its just not even a contest.
I think thats a lot of why you are seeing people say its over. If you look at this objectively, Joe Burrow is having one of the greatest seasons in College Football history as a Quarterback.
The issue is emotions can take into account too many factors that are in the end just pointless.
Justin Fields threw for the most yards in a game in his career last week at 305(against Rutgers). Joe has done that 8 of 10 games all while currently having the best completion % in CFB history.
And yet some how they will keep Fields in this. He shouldnt be.
