From a purely money stand point Delpit May have played himself into a lower round draft pick this past year(only because he was injured for most of the season). Coming off the 2018 season he was a surefire top 10 draft pick. Should he have opted out?

By playing he was able to with the Thorpe award and be part of NC team. But he essentially lost millions because of it. May have also led to underlying issues that lead to his current injury.

Yeah, good point. Kinda worried about Stingley, I have a feeling this will be his last year in the purple and gold.

Pretty good point.

Jedrick Wills was selected 10th and his contract was approximately 19.7 million.

Delpit's was 7.5 million.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't regret staying but I understand your point.

And he could have been driving down the streets of NOLA and ended up in a career ending accident. Of wait, that was another amazing player from LSU.

That's why I would rather a player opt out then sleep walk through their junior year because they are worried about getting hurt. Most of the players that did this have been under achievers at the next level. Todd Gurley, even though he got hurt, spoke about only knowing how to play all out and if he did anything else, he's not sure if he could get it back

From an individual standpoint: If Delpit opts out he probably goes 1st round at least. He definitely hurt his stock last season.

From a team standpoint: LSU probably doesnt win a title. With Todd Harris and Delpit out last season, LSU is pretty thin at safety. JaCoby still holds down his spot but Kary Vincent or Mo Hampton is likely forced into Delpit's role. Both were more than serviceable late in the year but who knows early on how things would have been. Also, Delpit's game-saving tackle against Auburn possibly never happens and therefore 15-0 is only a dream.

So now it's just about the NFL right? What happened to a players
dreams of playing college football? I would think that the money in the nfl will be there when its time, but there is something special about college football .it seems people are forgetting that ,these days.

Unfortunately, I think alot of these players have agents in their ear and miss this

There is an extremely miniscule chance they have an injury that materially harms their nfl money and draft position

However, by opting out, they guarantee themselves a loss. Chase had a chance of being one of the few LSU players with their jersey retired, a chance at being a name echoed for generations, etc

That is something I think they need to think about, because that holds monetary weight as well

Injury won’t prevent lower draft stock on its own, bad tape will. Maybe playing injured should be re-evaluated more so than not playing at all

But props to Delpit for getting back on the field for his team during a championship run
