What exactly is the NCAA violation that Will Wade did?

As in what exactly is against the rules if everything quoted from the phone call was actually said. Him saying "strong arse offer" is not against the rules, but the offering the mother and child clearly is. Is the act of just saying the offer was made against the rules? Is him talking about the offer in past tense against the rules? Is it against the rules if there was never even an actual offer presented?

I'm not blind about the situation, I'm just genuinely curious to what would be used against him.

Until the NCAA issues a finding, there is no violation. Again, back reference to the UNC fake class episode. UNC was caught dead to rights. They did not cave. In the end the NCAA could not determine significant violations, though they were as obvious as the nose on Pinocchio's face. What LSU did here was stupid beyond belief.

He’s a legitimate threat to unseat Kentucky.

"look Mrs. Smart having your son stay home to play for LSU means you get to see all his home games and he will be living 5 min away as opposed to say Lexington and being 12 hours away...plus he will get lots of playing time as a tiger"

Wade is guilty. So be it. Proof won’t be hard to find.

Making an offer to the family is against the rules.
I'm sure LSU/Wade was doing what other schools were doing. Doesn't make it right but that is how the game is played right now. This also means there was another school with a competing offer.

Not sure who the 3rd party is in this situation. But yeah it looks like LSU is busted.

However, until there is an investigation initiated by the NCAA, I don't think the AD and BoS should've jumped the gun and suspended, unless they have a lot more knowledge than we do. But I don't think LSU falling on the sword now will help out with any punishment by the NCAA if they find anything.

You just should fight it in this situaiton and let the NCAA do their investigation. Who knows it might would bring to light other programs.

The only reason this suspsension makes sense is if they hope the NCAA will let LSU self discipline. Come clean and let us suspend or fire Wade. Then all is good.

The double standard by the media though with LSU/Smart and KU/Zion drives me crazy though.

Wade refused to meet with LSU, that is why he was suspended.

Actually, they weren't. They can probably thank some savvy, non-athlete, students. They weren't guilty of academic fraud because the ghost classes were offered to all students. 47% of the enrollees were athletes, meaning 35% were not. I'd guess law students

UNC's defense was that, under NCAA bylaws, academic fraud constituted offering athletes advantages like easy classes (or in this case, classes that required only signing up to get an A) that were not offered to the general student population. UNC was correct. NCAA officials were pissed that they had no choice but to issue the finding they did.

Do you know the think the Feds know exactly what he offered/gave and what they received? You can bet what ever questions are asked to him they already know the answers and have proof. He will either have to tell the truth and tell all, lie or take the 5th.

Then he would have been charged with a crime. You just dont go to court for no reason.

You know it's the defense that subpoenaed Wade not the FBI. The Government will be fighting to keep his testimony out.

Usually you have to get OTHER people to go on-record about you cheating. Our guy did it for them. What a complete buffoon!

If he's allowed to stay at LSU, this is not even in doubt. He's already done it in year two.

this is not the way i understand the situation. the "offer" part is in the fbi case because it is considered fraud in that the students are receiving scholarship money AND the bball money.

if the ncaa cared about offers, scam newton would never have finished the season given that the sec knew there was a bidding war between state and auburn. the reason he did is because they could never prove that scam knew that money changed hands, i.e. the bagman. all emmert could do was say the rules of amateurism were broken and move on.

so if the ncaa can't prove money changed hands and the fbi can't prove that the offer was money and not scholarships, etc, i don't see how wade/lsu gets pinned with any of this. i still think wade resigns because lsu threw him under the bus. he knows he'll land a plum job with the quickness
