What exactly is Brady's role in the offense?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm an outsider and not familiar with your setup. It's obvious to anyone with eyeballs that LSU's offense is a machine this year with an electric passing game and everyone is crediting Brady with that turnaround. I see that Brady is the "passing game coordinator" while Ensminger is still listed as the OC. So what exactly is the dynamic here? Who actually calls the plays down? And if Brady is the dude behind all this, what exactly does ensminger do?

Back the heck up. He's not for sale!!

Brady installed the new offense
Ensminger is the key man in the weekly gameplan and is likely mentoring Brady in terms of running/calling an offense
it's a legit co-coordinator thing going on, likely for SE to step down next year and Brady to become "OC", with SE doing the same weekly gameplan and film work. he's been that guy for LSU for 10+ years, even back when he was "TE coach" under Les. that wasn't his real role

Making sure the team doesn’t lose to will muschamp

Having an OC and a passing game coordinator is extremely common in college football, and has been for probably 20 years.
People are acting like this is some crazy set up.

If you have a 1st round draft pick at qb, you will a dynamic offense. This offense would not be jack with, JJ, BH, AJ, MB, fill in blank with 90% of college qbs playing now and past qbs. If Myles Brennan lights is up next yr, I’ll eat shite for this post , gladly. Flame away rantards !!!!!

Brady holds Ensminger's SKOAL in his pocket

Ensminger is still listed as the OC

It's not a crazy set up. It's working at "three yards and a cloud of dust" LSU. That's the crazy part!

Ensminger is the OC.
Brady is the Passing Game Coordinator.
OC duties are much more broad.
Brady appears to be focusing on more details with Burrow and the WRs.
During game time they appear to be taking turns calling plays. One series at a time.
Brady spent 2 years under Sean Payton leaning the Saints passing system. He as taken some of those concepts with him and implemented them into the new LSU offense.
I notice to obvious things under this system:
1. Pre-snap reads by the QB and his responsibility to get everyone on the same page.
2. WR route tree. Each WR appears to have options depending on how the corners and safeties are lined up. In other words, the WRs are taking what the defense is giving them.
The key to all this is recognition and communication. As long as Burro and the WRs recognize the same thing they are very difficult to stop.
This is a slightly more advanced form of offense compared to most CFB. Probably on par with OU. You need a smart QB and WRs that enjoy spending time watching film and practicing these concepts. Burrow and the WRs spent a lot of time before the season outside of "practice" nailing these concepts down.

I get the feeling that the only reason Ensminger is listed as OC right now is optics.
Orgeron went through a lot of drama for firing a high profile and well thought of (at the time) OC with a lot of questions floating around about Orgeron‘s contribution to the toxicity of that situation. Orgeron replaced him with “a tight ends coach” who was definitely not the big splash hire that Orgeron promised he would go after when he took the job as HC... although he was plenty good enough to spank Georgia’s arse last year. At some point Orgeron realized this was never going to be a hardware winning scenario with Ensminger so he did something about it. We all feel Ensminger will be given a respectful transition out of that role shortly.

Please ignore some of our clueless fans who think a monkey could be our OC and we'd still be successful.

If Steve is Shakespeare, Brady is Edward de Vere.
(Take that literary reference, Rant)
In all seriousness I think you are seeing a legit mentoring relationship with Brady slotted to take over as OC when Steve formally retires.
On a side note, you think Brady had just a little bit to do with the Saints offensive success over the past few years? CSP was not thrilled to see him leave.
