No question he has been bad in his two starts, but I don't think that's a product of him starting vs coming out of the pen.

I just think he's struggling controlling his pitches right now, not inside or outside but just his placement from the knees to the elbows.

Personally I've seen enough of Caleb to feel like it will get fixed and he will be a valuable arm. Problem is I'm not sure what they should do with him in the mean time. Do you continue to start him and if you have to pull him early then that's what you do?

It’s only the second game. Pitchers have bad games and have to get pulled early. It happens. It happened to Texas last night

He isn't walking anybody, he is just getting crushed. Batters are making easy contact with the ball.

Because of placement, imo

Keep running him out there for now. We are going to need him to figure it out

This

(and he's sure not getting help from his offense tonight. Has LSU hit one out of the infield tonight?)

Gilbert’s not, nor has he ever been a starter.

I don’t dislike him, just think he isn’t ready to be a starter. He may never be. He’s just not able to squeeze his spots and leaves waaaay to much hanging.

well I guess I can't argue your point, but you shouldn't think he is having control problems imo. 0 walks on the year.

He hasn’t been able to effectively locate yet this season. I trust Dunn to get him squared away. If not, he goes to the pen. He’s still one of the best arms we have this year.

I honestly expect Bain to end up with the Sunday start, with Gilbert moved back to relief.

....and I’m not crazy about seeing Bain start, just think we are gonna have to do it this year.

9 hits and 7 lob in 4 innings... not really impressive

Next man up. Gilbert is a Sunday guy/ setup guy at best. Hess can be a Friday guy. I want to see Labas and Storz. Give the youngsters an opportunity. If Peterson doesn’t pitch strong tomorrow, I’m out of answers. Johnny Wholestaff the rest of the season.

He’s a reliever, imo. I know we’re short on starters, but I don’t think he’s one.
