This ship is ABSOLUTELY headed in the right direction.
In dense fog out in the North Atlantic. Is that a field of large Icebergs up ahead off the starboard bow? Trent and Joey boy are going down together with the ship after it scrapes the bergs and tears a long gash in the side. (Gathers signs elsewhere)
Trent has had enough time. What you see is what you get. TJ, nor anybody on that weak staff can recruit worth a damn. That's what is boils down to. End of story. Party is over.

Somebody has to explain to me why Brady's name gets brought up in a critique of Trent Johnson.
We fired Brady. There wasn't a lot of protest when we did it. There was a consensus that he needed to go. Nobody's interested in bringing him back. So why would we even consider a comparison between Trent and Brady? Trent can be better than Brady and still not be good enough to put this program on a solid footing.

I like Trent and I want him to do well but part of his job is getting players to LSU. Yes they need to be students and good citizens but they need to be able to play ball too. For whatever reason he's having a tough time getting kids to come to LSU.

Look, I've wanted TJ to succeed, as would any LSU fan, but the guy just hasn't produced after his first year. Gets a pass or whatever for his 2nd year, but we underachieved his 3rd year and are once again underachieving this year, on the court and in recruiting. To even think about keeping his job he NEEDS to go 8-8 in the SEC or better. 7-9 or worse should be grounds for firing.
This is it for me. Losing Gathers just makes me firm in my stance. .500 in SEC or fired.

You have been praying for this since last year, its christmas morning for you

For those in this camp..... What's the appropriate amount of time to turn around a basketball program?
Not a BAD basketball program, just any basketball program?
18 months, max?
And I ask, because Billy Donovan had two straight losing seasons (SEC) after taking over a Florida team that was just a couple years removed from a Final Four. He's been at Florida for 16 seasons.
Rick Stansbury had three straight losing seasons (SEC... well a .500 season, then two losing seasons
Kevin Stallings took over a Vandy program in 1999 that had been to the postseason 11 times in 13 years, and he never went above .500 in the SEC until YEAR 8. (They still made the NCAAs in that stretch, though....) They've missed the postseason once since then, with two trips to the Sweet 16. He's been there 13 years now.
WAY different era, but Coach K had FOUR straight losing seasons after taking over a Duke program that had just come from an Elite 8 appearance the season prior. 31 years at Duke now.
These were GOOD programs.
So, keeping in mind that LSU is THE WORST SEC team since 1993....
W
O
R
S
T
...team since 1993, what is the expectation?
Sweet 16 (or better) in 18 months on the job? 24?
Why?
Go ahead and say what your expectation is NOW.
While you're at it, go ahead and tell me why programs that were at worst "okay" to somewhere around "pretty good" or "really good" are able to have multiple losing seasons, but the almighty LSU (and our rousing 36% winning percentage) can't?

Yeah, I want LSU to lose. That's exactly it, douchebag.
You're clearly the better LSU fan because you want the team to win. Run, go tell your dad, he may buy you a trophy. I just like hating LSU. That's it. I am not upset BECAUSE OF LOSSES or anything. No, I'm pissed because of the wins.

fwiw, you do seem like a pretty shitty fan. I bet you haven't been to two games this season...

I don't know, maybe he is just as pissed off as me about Gathers not coming here.

I'm pretty pissed too but complaining like a little bitch isn't going to solve anything. Trent will either:
A) win and keep his job
B) lose and get fired
string together a nice streak to end this season and maybe we can convince Rico to stay home.

this. I feel like Rico wants to come to LSU and just needs a reason.

It's a pretty big issue. The argument has been "there's no talent in the state." There is talent, and it's leaving.

can we wait and see what happens until its all said and done. Gathers hasn't signed anything yet. If you want to bitch about x's and o's or substitutions go ahead. But frick, you're bitching about stuff that may not even happen. We might finish 9-7 in the league and sign Gathers. Just shut up and wait it out and discuss the actual games.... damn.

pretty sure the decision to tank is outta montel's control, sons.
same here. there may have been some extenuating circumstances that led to him decommitting from st. john's but even at the time he comitted i felt like there was a long way to go.

I'm still waiting on the "Trent has had enough time" crowd to tell us how long we give the next coach.

I mean hell. I don't know if he's had enough time. We're definitely better than last year and the year before. If we get 7 or 8 SEC wins that'll be good. I'd like to sign a nice class this season as well. If we flop and finish with 5 SEC wins and a mediocre class I wouldn't be upset if he were axed. But I do know that saying he should be fired after the season when we don't even know what will happen is just bitching for the sake of it.

if we close out nicely and get orlando 'magic' sanchez and sign another perimeter player i'll be content.

So, you'll settle for mediocrity? And you call yourself a fan.
Win out in the regular season, win the SEC tournament, get Dwight Howard.
Anything less is unacceptable.
By the way, if we beat Kentucky by less than double digits in the SEC tournament, I still think Alleva's got to make a move.
