What college sports has become!
When is the last time a national championship was won by a basketball team that didn't have NCAA violations. For the vast majority of the people on this message board the answer is "before I was even born"!

The system is rigged... not just by the players being bought and paid for but by only certain teams being allowed to excel. If you aren't one of the chosen one's you better not cheat to well, are your program will get the ax.

Do you hate cheating? How many said yes but still watched the WWE? College sports is nothing more than the WWE. And that is why I don't give a rats arse if we try to cheat on the level of Duke!

This is no longer a sport. It is now strictly entertainment.

False. The method to build teams is non-amateur. I can assure you this is still a sport.

It’s always been entertainment. That’s not anything new. Sports, by definition, is an entertainment activity.

WWE and the NFL are both listed as "sports entertainment". The NFL cheats, if you can even call it that. They aren't obligated to conduct a fair contest. Legally they can "cheat" all they want.

College sports do not have this luxury. If they get caught cheating there are legal ramifications. Players that take bribes are guilty of defrauding the university for example.

College sports have followed the same path even though it is a crime.

You can argue that it is till a sport, but it is no more a sport than the WWE is a sport.

You are required to legally to conduct a fair contest in college sporting events. But that no longer happens in basketball or football.

I wish it were not true, but it is. As money creeps into anything, corruption soon follows.

College sports was originally intended to be one schools students against another schools students. They were suppose to be amateur athletes. But they stopped being amateur as soon as they started giving them scholarships.

Technically if you get a scholarship to play football at LSU that makes you a professional.

In comes the money... incomes the corruption.

It is only as much a sport as professional wrestling is a sport.

Politics, the judicial system, college admissions, job related issues, all rigged.

I'm to the point where I think athletic scholarships should just be eliminated and if boosters want to pay kids to go to a school and walk on a football team then so be it. Get rid of the farce and call it what it is, the pro football rookie league.

The problem with basketball is when the AAU teams became the primary medium to contact recruits. The high school seasons became meaningless and the shoe companies would sponsor all these traveling teams and their handlers. It gave access to all these middlemen to control the route to college and eventually to NBA.

Where are these listings found? Do companies have to register as a sport vs entertainment someplace? Are professional sports leagues considered a "sport" for legal reasons with a certain set of legal obligations they must abide by vs "sports entertainment" with a different set of legal obligations. Or are they all simply considered corporations?

How do players take bribes and from whom? I cannot think of any criminal or civil charge that has ever been brought against a player for taking a bribe. Perhaps you can give us an example.

Getting a scholarship to a university makes you a student. What is the main difference between the two? For an academic scholarship, you have to maintain a certain GPA, depending on the scholarship. With a sport, you can have that yanked at any time at the coaches whim and you have academic requirements as well.

Money and power attract people solely interested in money and power. It attracts others, both good and bad, as well but the power/money hungry pose the greatest risk.

And lets be honest, most fans support the corruption , mostly because they feel it is the only way to compete.

Its driven by money. The cash cows get special privileges while the rest play by the rules. To repeat, the national brands that make more money get to do whatever they want because they make more money for the powers that be.

I never said it was "right". I don't give a f anymore. I gave up NFL completely when the cheating became rampant.

I still follow LSU because I graduated from LSU.

I wish it was all legit, so that I could be proud of our teams accomplishments. I have always hated cheaters.

But, the option to play fair has been taken away. EVERY team has two options. Cheat and TRY to compete against the proteams that Duke and UNC have, or lose. Those are the only two options available today.

It has always be entertainment and always will be. The only time sports is not entertainment is when there are no fans watching.

re: What college sports has become!

It seems to me that i the AAU has been corrupt since its inception.

And, yep, it’s all about grabbing a piece of the money.
Unfortunately, in this case, doing the right thing, whether by the administration or by the NCAA , means the program gets hurt, at least temporarily.

Color me as one of those folks who (still) believes a collegiate sports scholarship should be there to help a young student- athlete get a good education at a great university. Having said that IMO collegiate sports (especially basketball and football) is totally corrupt.

LSU has the best basketball team money can buy. Unfortunately this is the norm in collegiate sports today.
