What are the top 5 CFB programs? The athletic polled 100 CFB coaches & staffers

LINK ($)

1. Alabama
2. Ohio state
3. UGA
4. Texas

quote:

5. LSU
Points: 159
Total votes: 49
First-place votes: 14

LSU has had three head coaches over the past 20 years, and all three have won a national championship. No other program can say that. If you want to counter that by knocking Les Miles and Ed Orgeron, you’d just be strengthening the argument that this job is set up to contend at the highest level no matter who’s in charge. When it comes to talent acquisition, few programs are in a more advantageous position. LSU runs an especially talent-rich state and has no trouble recruiting at a top-five level and producing NFL Draft picks.

“Georgia, LSU and Ohio State have a stranglehold on the talent,” one Big Ten staffer said.

Their school is completely committed to competing at the highest level, and their program has excellent support, facilities and a gameday atmosphere that’s hard to beat. For those reasons, LSU was the job that received the second-most first-place votes, which ultimately made the difference in voting between the No. 5 and No. 6 job.

There were 13 other schools that received top-five votes, starting with one aforementioned job that came extremely close to surpassing LSU. Here’s a rundown of all the runner-up jobs:

6. USC
7. Clemson
8. OU
9. Notre Dame
10. Florida

How do they have UGA and Texas above LSU?

Why is this getting downvoted to hell? Why should UGA and Texas be above LSU in any ranking of football programs? We spend as much money as necessary, have incredible in state talent, and have top notch facilities.

I understand the argument for Ohio State ahead of us. But GTFO with UGA and Texas being ahead

Said it before, top 5 program that pulls top 5 talent and somehow we have a bottom 5 coaching staff.

I'm not sure the current admin in place is as committed as they should be.

Many more 2nd and 3rd place votes.

I find it interesting LSU has the second most first place votes. I wonder why we have an almost even split between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd?

This is why I scoff when fatalistic morons on this site contend that LSU won't be able to attract quality head coaching candidates. Objectively, LSU is one of the most attractive openings in all of college football. We should never have to endure extended mediocrity or ineptitude from our head coach.

Yes Bama 1, but really what’s the criteria?

Top five now, last five years, this century, last fifty years?

And based on what? Championships? Rankings? Budget? TV draw? Guys in the pros? Tradition?

Why do you say that? As bad as last year was, the team ended on a high note ad it was COVID and the year after a NC. We are a disappointing, damn near disastrous, 1-1 but it’s only 2 games in.

Yes there is a shite load of off the field stuff, but it’s still only 12 games after a NC. If this season stays in the shitter and no change is made? Yes you’re right. The administration isn’t as committed as the fanbase, but it’s still too early to make a change with all the currently available information.

After the year though, let’s see

I'm not sure this is true right now really. attendance and enthusiasm last week was embarrassing. The only reason I say might is because a lot of other schools are seeing the same thing. Notre Dame had the lowest attendance since they added 20k seats in the 90s for their Toledo game last weekend, and that includes last year.

Their school is completely committed to competing at the highest level

This definitely isn't true. I do believe Woodward is committed to winning, but I really do not think the President nor BOS care much about winning as long as the program is compliant with their social ideals and contributes something to academics. We're not even going to get into politics from the governor using the program as a fricking hostage in policy debates

It's trending in the wrong direction, though. We should be top 3, yet we're 5th. And, schools behind us are trending up rapidly.

Just because the program is struggling mightily right now does not make the job any less desirable. There are potential nfl players all over minus one position group, it’s a talent rich state, and it’s a national brand.

I don’t think the desirability of the job changes regardless of O’s frick ups and incompetence

You guys are missing the point with UGA, you can go there and never have to win a natty....what could be easier than conning a bunch of fans who celebrate a dog pissing on a hydrant and losing every big game? and you get to play Vandy, Ga Tech, UK, Missouri and TN EVERY year

As did the absolute joke and bull shite if Covid restrictions, but if we stomp UCLA I think that place is a lot more full.
