If you do not have a stud nose tackle, this defense is generally weak in any good NCAA league. Do y'all have that at NT?

our NT is a stud Chris Nield has been tearing it up

I watched them against Marshall, and am about to watch the replay of their game with Maryland in a few minutes (ESPNU 1:00 a.m. CDT). From what I saw against Marshall, Devine is more bulked up than he used to be, but didn't seem nearly as fast. Their QB is adequate as a passer, but certainly nothing to be scared of. He's more of a runner, but he's no Pat White. I'd be surprised if they do much against our defense.

Not to be rude, but have you ever watched the game of American football before? Smith threw for 316 yards against Marshall. He ran for 13 yards. He threw for 268 yards and 4 TDs against UMD and had -6 yards rushing. He's thrown 1 ill-advised pass this season. That was the first game. He is an accurate passer, but more than anything he is as poised as I've ever seen.

I was not being a smartass, as you put it. 2/3 of the SEC defensive players interviewed after they played us last year said they knew what we were running, solely based on the formation and personnel. It was not even necessary to steal the signs, which although very sad, I find funny. I think it's quite ironic that the "genius" we have as an OC totally outsmarted even himself last year, nearly placing dead last in FBS production.

I think the story of the game will be how much havoc our D-line will create. This alone will win the game for the Tigers.

I just believe that if both teams bring their A games it will be much closer than you think.

If LSU brings it's A game, it doesn't matter what WVU brings. LSU wins 48 - 9.

The problem is: how often do we actaully see LSU's A game?

I have seen 2 of their games this season. Here are my observations:

QB is solid and mobile
Devine is as advertised.....been watching him for a couple of years
the oline is tubby and below average.....huge weakness

defense is ok, but will break in the second half

I actually think MSU is a better team than WVU. They are an SEC sized opponent where WVU is not. Marshall and Maryland both suck......

Same thing Georgia said when we beat them in the Sugar Bowl in Atlanta.

Is that the only significant win ever for WVU? I think WVU will be a nice match up for this weekend, and hopefully LSU will bring the right intensity for this game in between SEC games. Devine is always a threat and their QB appears to be the best passer they have had in quite some time. I always root against the Boise State/TCU/West Virginia types of teams and hopefully LSU won't overlook the mountaineers Saturday. They are probably the best team we have faced yet this season.

Marshall handled WVU for 3 1/2 Qtrs of that game. Maryland is far from any SEC school, except maybe Ole Miss this year.

Our D is going to eat them alive. This game won't be as close as the Vandy or MSU games.

Thank you! I think I will. I'm really looking forward to coming down. Due to work schedules we don't fly out until Friday afternoon. I got home from our game Saturday afternoon in time to watch your game against MSU.

I wouldn't take to much from the Marshall game.Unusual circumstances for that game.
I think preparing for the 3-3-5 defense will be a bigger task for your QB.A week is not much time for a QB who hasn't been that great at passing this season.

I've watched a lot of WVU games over the past 10 years. They'll be ready for us and have played enough SEC teams lately to not be blown away by our stadium, size, speed, etc..

Anyone who thinks this is not going to be a game is mistaken. Can LSU win - yes, if they play well. Can we look bad and get smoked - absolutely.

I have not read the entire thread, but I would be VERY reluctant to take too much from the Marshall game given how much that game means to Marshall and how relatively little that game means to LSU. Remember the first half of LSU-Tulane in 2007?

I like the Tigers' chances, but we're just not good enough on offense to separate the score quickly even if the D is playing lights out. If the D struggles even a little bit, this game is scary. Plus, W. Va. seems to have a chip on their shoulder when they play SEC or Big 12 teams, so I damn sure hope our boys are as fired up about THIS game as I am. I expect a great game this Saturday.
