According to a Minnesota Twins reporter on Twitter, pitching coach Wes Johnson actually took a minor pay cut to take the same job at LSU. He received $400k per year with the Minnesota Twins. His base salary at LSU will be $380k per year with added post season incentives. It seems he just wanted more time with his family (12 year old daughter) and the opportunity was too much to pass up.

There’s probably a lot more in the table than just salary. Home, tuition for kids, vehicles, and all that jazz.

Yea there's definitely moving and vehicle incentives on the term sheet posted on that Twitter post.

Time to start banning people who say you’re wrong but offer no insight

Yea I would assume so. I think it's awesome that LSU was able to pull Johnson with a minor pay cut though. If true it shows that he wanted to be back in college baseball coaching in the SEC.

Plus - that salary goes a lot further in Baton Rouge than Minneapolis.

Have you seen Brian Kelly’s LSU contract? The university isn’t paying him $100 million. TAF fills in the gaps. I’m not saying Johnson wouldn’t have come for $380k plus incentives or that a big part of his decision is as to be able to spend more time with family. But I’d bet he got a pretty significant raise, whether we ever know the exact number or not. I suppose you could call that a cop out—and I guess it is technically—but that’s how it works. Our hitting coach this year was technically an unpaid “volunteer.” You think he’s working for free?

Go read the post. Lol some of yall are acting oddly to this news.

I'd much rather LSU pay Wes Johnson a base salary of $380k per year than the $750k per year that was reported.

Why? I was fired up by the $750 because it shows just how committed we are to taking our proper place in the SEC hierarchy. You can bet your sweet behind that there are some big money baseball fans who didn’t love watching the Mississippi schools dogpile in Omaha the last 2 seasons.

And when Johnson inevitably leaves for a HC job in the next year or 2, the best pitching coaches in the country will be beating down the door trying to get to Baton Rouge. Because LSU baseball is back to demanding excellence, and the statement that $750k makes is worth infinitely more than the $370 we “saved” by being shrewd negotiators.

That's cool and all, and I understand where you're coming from. But it was reported that he left the Twins organization for a $750k per year base salary. We just found it's actually $370k per year less than that.

I'm sure he'll make more through incentives and camps.

I love how many of you have come and said the same thing though rather than just reading the post.
