I don't think Les originated that.

He originally said it after the South Carolina game in 2012.

Les couldn't come up with a run outside the tackles let alone a quote that's been around for decades.

If Les didn't coin the phrase, who did?

Someone else. It's been around for a long time.

I thought it predated him. I stand corrected.

Les did not come up with this. It’s been around for decades.

I thought so too, but maybe I'm wrong.

Les may or may not have "originated" the saying, I honestly don't know.

What I DO know, is that the saying became pretty mainstream AFTER Les said it. And I'm old enough to know it was NOT said in public often (if at all) the previous 50+ years before Les said it.....I certainly never heard the expression until Les said it....again, I don't know.....

That's just my perspective. I'm not entering this "argument" either way. I'm just stating objective truth from my life and observations.

What Les said was “this is Death Valley. This is truly a place where opponents’ dreams come to die”; that is, what someone else has already said about Death valley is true.

Not necessarily. Truly can be used for emphasis.

Does anyone know if anyone said it before Les? If so, who and when?

If it’s been around for decades surely you can provide a link to someone using it prior to 2012
