We were doing it when we had small leads.
We threw the ball 4 times total the final 4 drives against BYU. We threw it 14 times the previous 5 drives.
We threw it 5 times total the final 4 drives against UTC (took out last drive of 1 play to end game). We threw it 13 times the previous 7 drives to that.
We were throwing it more earlier on in both games. In the UTC game specifically, Etling had a RIDICULOUSLY high yards per attempt because 5 of his 8 completions went for at least 27 yards. You dont have to throw it much when you keep getting huge chunk after huge chunk tossing it. In a game which turned into a blowout by halftime no less.

Up by 3+ TDs?
I know he went conservative too early in some games only up 14-17 points. But we're talking 4th quarter up 3-4 TDs here. You run the football.
I meant like games against ULM where they ran out of the I 50 times and won 31-3. For some reason people think every game under Les was a nail biter. But they'd get pissed he didn't pass more, even though they didn't have to in those games.
I just hope they continue to improve the passing game. But I still think this team should lean on the run. At least early in the season.
LSU has yet to turn the ball over. No need to get pass happy against state and end up giving them the ball with short field.

When a team gives you a soft cover 2 and deep safeties, you run the ball, especially if you have the personnel. Canada is going to run plays that are effective against what the defense is giving them. I guarantee there are some plays sitting on the shelf for the team that wants to stack the box and bring up their safeties to stop the run.

Easy explanation...
None of those teams had Guice. If they did, they would have run the ball more...period.

I looked back the other day at the last 4 years of cupcakes, there was no final score within 27 points. He blew out these teams as well as anybody. It just wasnt fun to watch because our passing game sucked.
I have no misconceptions that this team is going to be a 40/60 run/pass team...but there will come a day where we'll need to throw the ball 25-30 times to win the game.
I hope its not the first time we're trying that in a game. They very well may be able to throw it more and stay very efficient, but at this time no one knows if they can do it in a game, because they're yet to do it.
Would be nice to practice the passing game vs BYU and Chattanooga, rather than Florida and Auburn.

Ask A&M fans how much they liked that passing offense in the UCLA game?
Posted on 9/13/17 at 4:17 pm to DaCajun1
He didn't have DG at either of those schools.

dacajun ! I am proud it is not you running our offense , throwing is for teams that cant run the ball ,when the ball is in the air there is three things that can happen and two of them is bad !

Posted by MLCLyons on 9/13/17 at 1:43 pm to DaCajun1 Passes per game don't mean much without context. Here's the run/pass stats for every season Canada has been an OC: 1997 Butler 33.2 pass (47%) 37.5 Rush (53%) 2003 N. Illinois 28 pass (40.7%) 40.75 rush (59.3%) -Michael Turner was on this team so they ran a lot 2007 Indiana 34.3 Pass (48.4%) 36.5 Rush (51.6%) 2008 Indiana 29.8 pass (44.5%) 37.1 Rush (55.5%) 2009 Indiana 36.7 pass (54.4%) 30.8 rush (45.6%) 2010 Indiana 42.8 pass (59.6%) 29 Rush (40.4%) 2011 N. Illinois 29.1 pass (40.6%) 42.5 rush (59.4%) -Leading rusher and passer where the same person so I'm guessing it was an option-based offense. 2012 Wisconsin 29.8 pass (39.6%) 45.4 rush (60.4%) -Montee Ball was the RB 2013 NC State 35.5 Pass (45.1%) 43.3 rush (54.9%) 2014 NC State 29.3 pass (42.8%) 39.1 rush (57.2%) -Even with Jacoby Brissett throwing for 2600 yards they still ran way more than passed. 2015 NC State 31.8 pass (43.4%) 41.5 rush (56.6%) -Brissett again threw for 2600 yards but still a lot more running than throwing. 2016 Pitt 24.9 pass (37.4) 41.7 rush (62.6%) and just for comparison: 2017 LSU 18 pass (25.9%) 51.5 rush (74.1%) Takeaway: The total number of pass attempts if irrelevent in my eyes, it's the ratio of run to pass. The 3 years you mentioned those teams still ran the ball 58.8% of the time. He's only had 2 seasons where his offense threw more than rushed and that was at Indiana where I assume they were behind so much they had to throw more. It's too early to tell anything about our offense yet. When you're up big, you run the ball. But, historically Canada has average 54.7% rushes per game. The outliers are seasons where he either had a stud RB (Turner & Ball) or ran an option offense (2011 NIU). We have a stud RB so I expect us to be around 60% run by season's end.
I wish this was the OP and not that garbage frim Cajun.

How many Heisman candidate running back did Canada have on his prior teams?
We don't need to put it in the air 25 times per game.

Most plausible explanation is that it's a combination of things
No the "most plausible explanation" is that we have been able to pound the shite out of the 2 inferior teams we've faced so far so there is absolutely no fkin reason to sling it 30 times a game - unless you are a few chromosomes short you should realize that no team / coach wants to throw the ball if the opponent can't stop your running game!!!
Possible exception being Sean Payton and the Saints.........

Did Guice, Williams, etc all play for any of those teams

Am I going to assume like the rest of you apologist that Air Canada is hiding his playbook for Bama...not a chance. You're an idiot if you believe that.
Well here's a little proof.
quote:
“It was a play. It was a whole play. It was part of the whole deal,” quarterback Danny Etling said. “I’m not going to tell you if I could’ve snapped the ball before or if I could’ve snapped it after, who could’ve got the ball. Everything is kind of hidden with our offense right now, and we’d like to keep it that way.”
