We were so close to beating Kentucky last night. Surprisingly I think defense costs us.

We should have had that game. IMO what costs us the most was the lack of missed defensive assignments down low in the second half that led to easy baskets for Kentucky.

It seemed LSU became confused at times in the 2-3 zone. Guys were help defending WAY TOO early which allowed a Kentucky man to get free under the basket and receive the pass for an easy lay-up or dunk. At one point LSU had three guys defending one Kentucky guy... ...that just does not work in basketball. This needs to be fixed by CWW and it's an easy fix.

Secondly damn do our guys need to learn how to finish at the rim. They have to quit assuming that the ball will go though the hoop if they simply have a lay up. We had TOO MANY missed lay-ups (especially Skyler Mays). There needs to be more focus on fishing simple lay-ups.

This is where LSU lost the game last night. If LSU plays slightly better assignment defense (especially down low) in the second half and finishes their lay-up opportunities LSU would have won by 4-6 points. The mistake (not setting the pick) made by Duop Reath on the second to last play wouldn't have even mattered.

The good news assignment defense and finishing at the rim are correctable.

It’s just comforting to know that will wade has us going in the right direction

Not getting that rebound on the missed free throw did us in.

If someone besides our 5'9" point guard could rebound in the second half, we win comfortably.

Still reassuring to see the effort. PMAC was awesome last night.

That was terrible. Not boxing out like that is inexcusable. With that said, this too is totally fixable.

Good teams find a way to win those close games. LSU not there yet.

Wade is doing things the right way. They'll continue to get better. They'll also have a huge talent infusion next year.

Late in 2nd half, when Mays failed to finish on a breakout, KY immediately got it back to their basket in transition as we were being lazy, and converted a 3pt play... to me that 5pt swing is what cost us

There were really just a couple of offensive rebounds we gave up and turnovers we committed in the 2nd that were the difference in the game. You could feel the energy sucked out of the team and arena after Waters' huge blocked shot which ended with Sampson turning it over at the other end. All in all I just can't be upset about last night and the effort the team displayed. We simply don't have the length yet. I feel the defense is gradually improving after some early season lapses. The program is in good hands. I think anyone who's been watching can agree with that

the most pivitol play was when mays blew a fast break layup (he tried to reverse lay it in). It turned into a transition and-1 situation for UK. So with 2+ minutes we were down two instead of being up 3

mays is 6'4. he needed to go straight in to the rim and either drop it on or get fouled. no need to increase the level of difficulty when you are that big. Waters, yea, but mays, no no no

We comin though.......

I agree. If Skylar makes that lay up, LSU goes up 68-65 with the crowd behind then! Skylar should have possessed the ball and waited for help instead.

If you look at 1 play, which you shouldn't but it ultimately lost it for us, it's the missed layup that turned into a 5 point swing. That's what lost it. Defense played for the 1st time this season. The 1st half was a lot better than the 2nd, but nonetheless, we played well.

Mays and Sampson both had ROUGH games. Gotta give credit to Sims and how he played though. Not often you find a 6'4" forward who can compete effectively against the likes of UK

Yeah that defiantly hurt.

You rarely lose a basketball game on one or two plays. Usually its a series of missed assignments on defense and missed opportunities on offense.

Being that Will Wade has a high focus on defense I was surprised by the number of missed assignments on defense by LSU that allowed Kentucky to get easy baskets. And I'm not talking about when Kentucky had numbers in their full court offense...every defense loses in that situation. I'm talking about when Kentucky ran their half court set offense. That was surprising to me.

A lot of things happened that could have flipped a 3 point game.

Mays getting a steal and missing a layup that let UK get a run out and-1 lost the game at the end.

We went from potentially going up 3 to down 2.

Sampson had a poor game offensively. He did everything else very well.

It's encouraging that we played Kentucky so close and had a chance to beat them when these two guys were off offensively.

Kind of on a side note: is Brandon Rachal hurt?

I would argue this along with giving up too many rebounds is the reason we lost.
