have been through whole thread - just skimmed the beginning - but saying alabama is the best team except for kicking is like saying arkansas is the best team in the sec except for their defense

We are a bad kicker and a few less honey badgers away from being Alabama.

I agree about Jefferson being a difference. They had to account for another RB in the game.

They can bitch and moan about what THEY didn't do or what they did to themselves and what WE didn't do to them all they want....THEY can continue to humor themselves with the talk that helps them sleep at night or deny LSU's victory. Lastly, THEY can also sit at home in January and watch while WE will EARN AND enjoy our 3 NC in 9 years...how does that Humble pie taste, Bama????

Jefferson was THE difference in the game period. No jefferson, bama wins AT LEAST 6-3

The Speed option beat you guys last season, If no Jefferson, Les Miles would have found some other player to run it.

Getting rid of the ball by throwing to an area of the field with a receiver in the vicinity is a lot easier said than done. Aimlessly tossing the ball in the air each time a QB is pressured would result in a high number of interceptions. Taking the time to scan the field, locate a receiver, and throw a pass far enough away that the defender cannot make a play on the ball, but close enough that the offensive player is considered in the area, would result in a high number of fumbles with QBs being hit when the ball is unprotected (due either to their inability to detect the hit or them not having enough time to release the ball forward before contact). The risk/reward is typically not worth taking the chance. The best case scenario is that the pass is incomplete and you do not lose yardage/the clock stops. The worst case scenario is that you lose the football with no one between the defense and your endzone. Somewhere in between is the situation you described. I believe teams now have the option to accept a penalty and may elect to have 10 seconds run off of the game clock inside of the final minute of the half. This is another reason why risk may outweigh reward.

Makes a lot of sense. Thank you.

Matt Prater has best percentage in NFL history at .714 on 50+ field goals. Just found article on yahoo saying Sabastion joins short list of kickers in NFL to have three 50 yard kicks in one game. Kicks over 40 yards are hard people and fifty yarders get the pros excited! Saban should have punted!

Why should that stop them? Since when is having the best record required for Alabama to claim a "National Championship"? I fully expect them to claim a NC this year because "Les Miles is an idiot so that loss doesn't really count".

Skewed

and skewed b/c your kicker missed several extremely long-range FGs (translation: LSU defense kept the AL offense out of reasonable FG range.) "Skewed" b/c of Jefferson and option?? Damn Les Miles, not running the plays that Nick was prepared for! You guys are pathetic.
