Because i bet USM does the same. Plus We have won every game Hilliard has started this year except that Ole Miss rain delay game.

I would too. If you can’t beat Kennesaw State with Floyd then you have no shot in the tournament. I just reviewed their schedule. They were somehow the ASUN tournament champions by going 3-2 in the tournament.

I guess they ran out of #4 seeds because it seems they should have been one. If we do our thing, we should be able to beat them.

If we can't start Floyd and beat Kennebaw State, we deserve to lose and get bounced

Im fine with floyd or hilliard throwing against kennesaw. Both hilliard and floyd have been good lately.

I don't think this LSU team is good enough to pitch down against a 3 seed. I'm sure matchups will play into the decision. USM isn't a lock to beat Army either.

That may be true, but if so, then LSU probably isn’t winning the regional anyway. They are going to have to win multiple games with someone other than Hilliard on the mound. They get one chance to run him out there this weekend. Pitching against the host throwing their ace seems like the logical spot to put him on the mound. The only reasons to do differently would be if Kennesaw St had a stronger ace or if they thought they couldn’t beat USM’s ace anyway.

I feel like we have this debate every year (because we do), but I'll just say what I say every time, and that is that if we are afraid of losing game 1 with our number 2 starter, how much more should we then be afraid of losing game 2 with him? It makes sense, at least to me, to pitch your number 2 (or 3, in years when we've had such a thing) against the weaker team. If he can't get the job done, that just proves he wouldn't have been a good choice for game two.

I think starting Floyd in the opener would be a good choice, and no more of a risk than going the other way with it.

KS has a stronger SOS than Southern Miss. Don’t sleep on them.

Does anyone know if Kennesaw has a high quality number 1 starter?

You gotta win the first game before you can win the 2nd. I’d throw my ace. If needed, he might be able to come back some on Monday

They dont have a true shutdown starter, they have 2 guys that start alot and are pretty good.

John bezdicek is the lefty we likely see. He has been pretty good against their weaker competition

shite, I'd almost be happy with him throwing Dutton or Hasty against Kennesaw St. I know Hasty didn't have it against Kentucky but I'd rather pitch him or Dutton against Kennesaw than against USM. And youd have to beat USM twice to win the regional. Hasty/Dutton -Kennesaw, Hilliard- USM, Floyd - USM again.

But I'm not the coach and my decisions might put LSU in the losers bracket if the bats or Hasty don't show up. Lol

I'm sorry, but this "gotta win the first before you can win the second" line drives me nuts in double elimination tournaments. If you throw your ace in game 1, and lose game two without your ace, you're 1-1. If you start your number 2 in game 1 and lose, and your ace wins game two, you're 1-1. What's the difference? Save your ace for the better team, I say.

And no, I don't care if Kennesaw Mountain Landis State feels disrespected, for those who would make such an argument. It's about matchups, and winning.

Hilliard sets the tone for the team. He starts Friday.
