We should have let Brennan play more last season

And by play I mean actually run the offense in games situations, not just hand off in garbage time. We had such big leads in so many games last year. I know people don’t like to run the score up, but it would be nice if he had gotten to run the offense more during garbage time last season. For example, Burrow never started for Ohio State, and I don’t think he was even the #2 guy some of the time, and yet he had 10 passing tds when he came to LSU.

So we've gotten to the point of criticizing last year's team/coaching... you know, the one that won it all in record fashion.

Amazing.

I agree with this.

Would really be helpful at this point.

However, tough to second guess a single decision made last year. Us running up the score with Burrow likely contributed to us getting the #1 seed and him dominating the Heisman voting like no one ever before.

I’m a huge supporter of O and this team. I’m not calling for O’s head or anything here, just saying I do think we sacrificed Brennan getting some valuable experience in the name of “not running up the score”

What games would you have liked to see him play in that he didn't?

There were 3 games where the opponent had an onside kick attempt at the end down only one score (Texas, Auburn, Alabama). Florida was close all the way through. LSU never really pulled away significantly against MSU. They couldn't stop Ole Miss from scoring in the second half. Brennan played in every "blowout".

He's had plenty of experience for a first time starter. More than most actually. Playing time last year was perfectly fine. We don't break records or maybe don't get the 1 seed if we don't run it up, especially at the end when our defense was being questioned.

I don't think he's questioning decisions we made to win a national title, but there is some validity in getting him in more during garbage time and letting him actually run the offense when doing so wouldn't have had any effect on whether or not we won a championship. I think, in many ways, we were also coaching for Burrow to win a Heisman at times, at the detriment of some great development opportunities for Brennan. It also hurt that we had to limit him to 4 total games in 2018 to conserve his redshirt due to guys transferring out. Even in those 4 2018 games, he only threw 6 total passes. He honestly had almost as much game experience as a freshman as he did last year.

No thanks. I enjoyed having the best season in college football history instead.

Ga southern, northwestern state, Utah state, Arkansas, Oklahoma. And like I said I don’t mean just play, but actually run the offense and throw the ball

He didn't really "play" though.

Pass attempts by game:

Georgia Southern - 12
NW St - 9
Vanderbilt - 4 (won by 28)
Utah St. - 1 (won by 36)
Miss State - 3
Arkansas - 4 (won by 36)
A&M - 4 (won by 43 and he did throw a TD)
Oklahoma - 3 (won by 7,412)

ETA:

Again, I'm not second guessing much from last year. It was worth everything.

But it would be nice to have this season.

I said it all last year. Miles did the same crap. He looked like a true freshman last week. Once Joe began his pace for records and awards that plan went out the window

The dude took quite a few snaps in the college football semi-final in the Georgia dome... and somehow he wasn't ready for the massive stage that was Miss state in-front of 25,000 and cardboard AT HOME... do we really think more snaps in garbage time last year would have made a difference???

He threw 12 passes against GaSO and 9 against NWSt. He looked sharp against Oklahoma but hell my 3 legged dog could have looked sharp against that defense.

Taking snaps and actually running the full offense through him are totally different.

Yea but only 15 passes combined against, Vandy, Utah state, miss state, Ark, and OK. He could have easily thrown 10 passes in each of those games.

That's fair, but he seemed to be more or less running the offense against OU, and was for sure running it against a&m when he tossed that long TD to McMath. He was confident as hell with the game in hand, I just don't think he's being "the guy" out the tunnel.

Were are you seeing these stats?

Before transferring to LSU, in 3 years at OSU Burrow played in 10 games. He had 39 passing attempts in those 10 games. He threw for 2 TD's and ran for another...in 3 years.

LINK

Last season alone Brennan appeared in 8 games. He had 40 pass attempts. The only games Brennan didn't appear in were Texas, Florida, Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss, Georgia, Clemson. As noted, Texas, Florida, Auburn and Bama weren't blowouts. LSU had to keep scoring vs. Ole Miss because they could not stop them in the second half. I supposed he could have played a little vs. UGA, but to what end? The Clemson game was within striking distance in the 4th until LSU put together a long drive late to drain the clock.

Before Saturday, Brennan had played FAR more overall and meaningful snaps than Burrow had before his first start at LSU. Ask Ed and Brennan if the snaps he played down 17-0 vs. Troy were "meaningful". I would think handing the ball over to a true freshman and saying "go save us from one of the more embarrassing losses in school history" is pretty pressure packed.

You are right about Burrow, I swear I remember seeing that. My bad on that, maybe it’s the Mandela Effect.

Nah! He looked fine last season. If we still had the O line of last season, he would be fine this season as well.
Give the team a couple more games and this will be forgotten.
Give State some credit. They had a team of veterans and probable the All SEC Quarterback.
We only scored 36 points vs Miss St last season.
Burrow threw four TD passes.
Brennan threw 3 this season.
Last season's defense only gave up 13.
