We are fortunate that Kelly’s coming coincided with the Transfer Portal era

Could you imagine the rebuild it would have taken without all these great transfers on our team this year?

Granted some may not have left LSU for other schools but I’ll take these kids like Daniels, Brooks, Foucha, Gardner, Converse, etc. any day of the week over Ricks/Gilbert/Max.

Definitely would have taken our lumps without the transfer portal but lsu was still limited with the scholarship restrictions for # you could sign in getting back to the 85

Next year we can sign a full class and add transfers as long as we are not over the 85

I’d take Ricks right now. If Gilbert wasn’t mentally ill, Denbrock and Kelly would make him first team all American.

Would have set us back another two years. At least. 5 year rebuild vs 3.

But tbh they could be contending next year with the portal.

I'd take Ricks if he would buy in. Otherwise, no.

All other teams are benefiting from the portal as well but your point is conceded.

Yes, the freedom of transfer rules have significantly changed the timeline and expectations for "rebuilding". However, it is not as if LSU/Kelly were the only school/coach to whom the transfers were available. Kelly and his staff did a good job of bringing immediate starters in. Of course, it also helps that Louisiana produces a ton of talent which helps when you can get Louisiana-born starters from other schools (Brooks/Foucha - Arkansas; Converse - Oklahoma St.; Garner/Lacy - ULL)

While less so in football as opposed to basketball, the transfer rules greatly expedite the time necessary for a "rebuild"

Well, the portal was also partially responsible for the decimation of the team. Two-edged sword there, really.

Transfer portal is a must for coaches as long as NIL is allowed to be unregulated.

Correct. Most of the players who transferred would still be here if not for the new transfer rules, so it's really a poor point.

I agree Chad but some schools will benefit more especially the schools with big reputations which is why we hired kelly he came from a big named school !

We were a year away from being back in the 90’s for a long time. If this hire was a bad one we’d be Auburn with no end in sight. We are very, very fortunate to have BK

Incorrect. They could have transferred but would have to sit out a year

Ok Liz. Go check the volume of transfers in college football before the portal and after the portal, and also before open transfer with no sit out, and presently.

Transfers were rare. They are now common.

Saying that we are lucky that we have the portal to replace all these players we lost in the portal is illogical.

True. Unfortunately, we were losing top talent as they were fleeing from the shite show. Now, we should be one of the programs that benefits in the 2 deep, while we may still lose some guys that are further down the depth chart. BK is building a quality program and has shown that he can develop players, even QBs.

Maybe so - but where would Bama be without just Gibbs and To’oto’o. 4-4 probably.

The top programs were always going to benefit from open transferring.
