I’m guessing the money is little to nothing and he will return. Thoughts?

He most likely will return but when a player is drafted this late, it's possible the team had some leftover money from 40 rounds of drafting and decided to throw the rest at the kid who was asking for a lot that nobody drafted. So wait and see.

Very VERY unlikely for a 40th round pick. That money will be invested in the picks in the previous 39 rounds.

Right, I said possible. Not likely.

Well with that logic, I could possibly get drafted if I started playing, but very unlikely.

Man this whole Watson deal is a head scratchier to me. I know it was a very down year for him but we all know the talent is there. I think he never fully recovered from that abdominal pull.

Lol. Watson wasn't drafted in the 40th round because of the season he had. He was the best player available for the final 25 rounds or so. He was drafted in the 40th round because a team threw him a bone and has the option to sign a really good player just in case he changed his mind. Every team knew Watson and Hess were coming back, hense why they weren't drafted.

I think he just never learned how to lay off a high fastball. He struck out swinging a ton. MLB knows he has talent though, and will be a top 5 round pick next season regardless

I wonder if maybe Watson put out the word to teams that he was coming back so don't bother drafting.

It wasn’t probably more like, “if you don’t draft me in the top X rounds, then don’t draft me”

Word on the street is Watson told the scouts he wanted to perfect his move to steal first base from second base before he turned pro....

quote:

Watson made the second out of the LSU seventh inning after he unexpectedly turned around from safely standing on second base and headed back to first.

That was despite the fact teammate Hunter Feduccia was already standing on first. And the fact that all of this had happened on a ground ball.

“To tell you the truth, I had no idea what happened,” Watson said. “I don’t know… I basically just [blacked out].”

He told them his number and they weren't going to come close so they didn't waste a pick on him.
