Was Matt Canada an O coaching hire?

With all the turmoil around Coach O possibly not being a good evaluator of coaching talent, it made me think about Matt Canada. I seem to remember that Alleva was behind the hiring of Canada. What do y’all remember about that?

It was O. He wanted Kiffin but Saban got him the job at Florida Atlantic. Just to keep him off of O's staff.

Tbh, everyone thought Canada was a good hire. So I don’t knock that hire too much.
I do remember Canada putting up 70 points against Pelini. Not that that’s hard these days

Technically yes but was basically told by the administration for him to get the LSU job he had to hire the best OC available on the market. Matt Canada was considered the best OC at the time

Canada was second choice. Kiffin was in the bag until Saban pushed him to FAU.

This is patently false. Saban and Kiffin were not even on speaking terms after their last playoff game. Kiffin was talking with FAU when he walked off the field that day, literally (Josh Pate recently showed video of this, where Kiffin was walking off the field and Jimmy Sexton was waiting for him in the tunnel with a cellphone). Saban fired him right after and Sark called the NC game.

hell i liked the hire and it backfired. O made it right i think he will do the same with the defense. I know its eating him up watching the abortion that is the defense right now.
