Was Les’ biggest blunder hiring O? How different would things be if he hadn’t?

His biggest blunder was not adapting to a modern offense and letting his OC run it.

Nah
As a dline coach/recruiter they don't really get any better.
Would have been silly not to hire him as a position coach.

Well his biggest blunder to LSU certainly was burn o was not his own undoing.

If he did that, he would still be here and much more competitive

I've heard some things suggesting Miles regretted bringing O into the mix. I've heard that O was kind of forced onto Les, not someone he intentionally wanted on his staff.
At the time O was hired, I immediately thought of the USC interim thing, and figured O was going the be the interim if something happened.
Something happened.

I think Les was trying to shore up recruiting when he made that move.
How different would things be, otherwise? Hard to say.
If Alleva's "search" plays out the exact same way, maybe he looks to Aranda after Jimbo and Herman both say no.

You idiot. Had O not been here someone else wouldve taken over as temporary HC when miles was fired. Miles sucked. We are in the position were in bc miles left us here. Miles last recruiting class blows other than 2 or 3 good players

Les’ biggest blunder = not incorporating the forward pass

Les’ last recruiting class was much better than the one 0 just had.
If LSU doesn’t have a really great season in 2018 BAMA & A&M will poach the best in state talent for 2019

Hiring Cam was his biggest blunder. It was an attempt to NOT change the offense, just run it better. And Cam sucked at recruiting QBs. I don't know what he was doing, but I know he was doing it wrong. Cam gave him the confidence and comfort to stay the course.
Worth pointing out one of the missing factors in Les' blunders and/or firing was at about the same time that Cam was hired our S/Teams went downhill significantly.
If the S/Teams had been better, then the offense wouldn't have had looked so bad. Especially from the POV of field position. I mean, we all have the impression of having at least 1 KO out of bounds a game right? I know I do. And it was usually at the worst possible time. It can't all be just bad luck to do that stuff that consistently.
The two together was his doom in reality. The promising to change was incidental. He probably would have if Cam hadn't been there.

This is the only reasonable answer.
Most everyone on this board was excited and the feeling was, as DL coach he’d give us a needed shot in the arm.
But ... should it have been a warning sign to Les and us?
I remember wondering why Orgeron had been sitting home on the couch unemployed for a year when Les hired him.
I chalked it up to a contract situation, but no one was beating down Orgeron’s door even as a DL coach/recruiter.

Meh. I can remember when this board didn’t want O around the program because of questionable recruiting tactics.

Who goes about deciding the interim?
Why did O get it? Because he had before? Wish they had given it someone else.

Frank Wilson is probably HC right now.

Kicking off RP and TM.
RP just about had to go but maybe Spurrier is the only other coach that would have had the balls to kick him off. I don't know any other coach that would have kicked off either of these guys
TM and RP are the two highest profile kids ever to be kicked off a college football team and it hurt big time in both situations

Cam Cameron was his downfall. Just like Lou Tepper for Dinardo.

Les’ biggest problem was trying to change who he was. If he sticks with his philosophy that brought him here, he’d have done just fine in 15 and 16. He was trying to adapt and didn’t have a good mentor imo
