Yes. Otherwise the sight lines wouldn’t be right for the seating. It’s an old theatre.

I was at the SEC tournament back in 1983 or so and found it very odd.

Huge amount of space between the sidelines and the seats.
Benches on the baseline.
At least they have normal looking baskets now

I'll allow it. It really is awesome in person and extremely loud. But I'll say some of your points are true
