These announcers are kissing Martin's butt over that play, but the only takeaway they should have gotten out of that is that Hughes is way too slow to bunt. It was actually a great bunt, and a fast runner would have been safe by a mile. If he can't beat out THAT bunt, he doesn't need to ever bunt for a hit
again.

I mean we all know that Hughes is sub-Mendoza offensively, and he’s not as outstanding defensively at 3B as you’d hope, but he’s pretty firmly the best defensive option as a utility infielder. I’d hoped that he’d maybe get on an Austin Nola or Kramer Robertson trajectory but it doesn’t look like that’ll be the case.

Paul Manieri has a hard on for the kid and his bat is terrible and he’s slow and he’s an above average fielder. He’s a good defensive sub late in games and that’s it
