Would the committee just keep us 5 knowing GA and LSU game will determine LSUs fate, or will they have USC jump us and face chaos if we beat GA?

I think they leave us at 5.

Doesn’t matter. The Georgia game will be the deciding factor of LSU’s fate.

Think about it… it’s not complicated
# 6 USC beats #15 Norte Dame
And jumps #5 LSU

Then the next week #5/#6 LSU beats #1 Georgia and you don’t think they/LSU don’t jump back up?

5 or 6 is such an irrelevant point. Just win out and let the debate happen then. There is no debate unless that happens.

That's kinda the question, but right now, we're at 5 and have to play 1. That game is basically a quarterfinal for LSU.

That’s the point he’s making. If both win out, LSU would be ahead of USC, so they may just keep LSU ahead of USC next week to avoid the added controversy that would come from LSU jumping them in the final rankings.

They haven't jumped a winning team in a couple weeks, at least not high in the rankings. LSU advanced and stayed in order the past two weeks, despite a 3 pt win at Arkansas, and a cupcake win at home. USC jumped LSU in the AP poll, but not in the committee ranking.

This tells me- they expect UGA to win out, stay #1, and USC gets the 4th spot. But if LSU were to win out, they will take LSU, and the question would be how far UGA falls. I don't see them dropping past 4.

Keeping UGA in would justify LSU getting in, because LSU would beat one of the 4 playoff teams, something USC doesn't have on their resume.

The fact that UGA is the undefeated defending champs, and the SEC has been winning just about every title since the turn of the century, also justifies that.

Too much hysteria on this board. Enjoy the ride. It will be what it is when all is said and done.

All of this speculation is being centered around USC, but I'm more concerned with TCU losing a game (and LSU handling their own business above that), preferably the Big 12 championship game, so that they wouldn't be a conference champion. That might make the committee's decision easier. Of course, I wouldn't mind if TCU lost two games, but I don't really think they'll lose to Iowa State.

I was blown away yesterday morning when Matt Moscona responded to me on his podcast by telling me that he didn't think LSU would pass a 1 loss TCU. I reminded him that I qualified my statement by saying I thought a 1 loss NON conference champion TCU would get leaped by a 2 loss SEC champion LSU. He said again that even if TCU doesn't win their conference he thinks the committee will choose the path of least resistance and take the 1 loss team.

All of this after I had just heard him say, minutes earlier, that if Kansas State upsets TCU in the Big 12 Championship "it would be huge". Why would that be huge if we aren't passing a 1 loss team?

People are contradicting themselves at every turn over this debate, it seems. But to me, it's pretty clear what our path is. TCU definitely needs to lose the Big 12, and I do think their poor strength of schedule, along with just an overall unimpressive performance even in beating the teams that they have, would allow LSU to jump them if we win out. And we most likely need USC to lose a game. I don't think we're passing the Michigan/Ohio State loser, and I don't even think we pass Georgia by beating them. It wouldn't be the first time a conference champion didn't pass another team from it's own conference. But TCU's resume seems weak enough that we could pass them if the scenario I mentioned before plays out.

If every team wins out (unlikely) don’t be shocked if Georgia drops to 5

Das macht nichts. The committee just telegraphed its opinion that if LSU wins out, we're in.

With OSU-UM upcoming, we control our own destiny in Brian Kelly's 1st year at the helm.

Un-effing-believable!

Repeat after me: If LSU beats A&M and UGA....they are in the Playoff. Don't hurt yourself with all that other BS.

Doesn't matter. Two of the top 6 teams are guaranteed to lose. Those 6 are your field. Two play-in games and two other teams that just need to win out. Clemson is the odd man out that needs an additional loss by someone.

I agree with you about USC. I actually think they're about to lose twice. Not sure about TCU. That will come down to their rematch in the Big12 CG.

I was just pointing out to OP that each of the current top 6 control their destinies imo. I don't think Georgia is guaranteed a spot with a loss considering how many undefeated or 1-loss conference champions there could be. All 6 just need to win out, but two are guaranteed losses because of upcoming play-in games.

If anything, giving USC 6th gives them more motivation vs Notre Dame and LSU risks looking ahead.

UGA losing in the SECCG would leave them as the top ranked 1-loss team, i.e., still in the Top-4.
