For Vaughn, this will be his third go-around with Team USA, having also competed with 2018 teammate Daniel Cabrera (LSU) on the 2013 15U National Team which went undefeated en route to winning the gold medal at the COPABE Pan Am "AA" Championships in Barranquilla, Colombia.

"Trimming this roster down was one of the more difficult things I've ever had to do as a coach," Team USA manager and LSU head coach Paul Mainieri said. "We are sending players home who were perfect here. They are all great. We only have so many slots on the roster so we had to make some tough decisions.

The Collegiate National Team will open the 42nd USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Series at 7:05 p.m. ET on Tuesday, July 3, at BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte, North Carolina. The second game of the series will be held at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park at 6:05 p.m. ET on the Fourth of July.

We know Japan is going to be a formidable opponent and we are going to have to be at our very best."

Cape Cod league 2018:

2 GS, 7 IP, 8 SO, 1 BB, 1 H, .29 WHIP

USA Baseball 2018:

2 IP, 1 SO, no base runners allowed

What's the issue with him being on the team?

my issue is he had a bad season. And i think there are more worth pitchers/players.. Will Holland from Auburn got cut. much more deserving that Hess imo

I hate to say it but that looked like a weak performance led by CPM. Reminded me of some bad LSU games this year. Hope we improve quickly

Final Score USA 0 - JPN 1
