inter and Baker were both really really good.

Minters break out season was 2012. He was good in 2011, but people weren't saying he was a star, just a solid player. No one saw the season coming that he had.

only thing that boggles my mind is Ed Paris. No where to be seen. Without Mills, I actually don't like our depth at corner. We will be screwed on the outside if either of white or tolliver go down. Jackson will be abused by big receivers. Williams had zero catches until Jackson was getting snaps.

Yeah I gotta agree with you there. I really hadn't thought about our depth situation at CB til you brought it up, but Paris complete absence is surely a mystery. Perhaps since KT2 is a true frosh they are trying to make sure he gets every snap to accelerate his learning curve. I don't see why Paris couldn't sub in for White though. I'm thinking if we get an injury there before Mills comes back the coaches will shift Thomas over to CB and put thompson in at safety dropping adams or jefferson down to nickle.

I accidentally down voted because I have fat fingers. It was not intentional and good post.

ugh. get a life…

time supply of upvotes for writing this! thanks for spending the time to construct a well thought out analysis of the defense. seems like you spend a lot of time on one of your passions. hope you enjoy the season and you keep breaking down the film for us every week.

quick, ask- maybe some formatting might help? bolding the players/giving each player his breakdown might help us get through the big blocks of text. thanks so much again.

I DO think that Harris will end up being a much bigger part of the offense than either JJ or Lee was in 2011.

Without a doubt

Thanks Karma, that is a good suggestion and I will try to put it to use. I'm always open to constructive criticism.

Agree. An embarrassment of riches. Still think that LSU will need to pass effectively to beat the likes of OM, 'Bama and TAMU.

When I first saw the length of this post, I was concerned but great write-up and I applaud the time commitment needed to go in depth like this.

LSU is the only team that has beaten 2 ranked teams to start this season and if the polls and committees and councils and computers are worth 2 sh@ts in a bucket, they should all give credit for what they call "body of work" and position LSU accordingly.

Also, I watched LSU completely dominate 2 solid SEC teams in the first half of both games on defense. Completely dominate. Its being overlooked that neither opponent moved the ball on LSU in the first 2 quarters based on the box score data. And the eyeball test on the field in the first half of both games says that LSU will be able to do this to anybody they play this season. The media is not giving credit to this fact and are going with the idea that Auburn and Moo State are bad teams and LSU took advantage. That is completely the wrong assessment in my mind as I think State will win a big game or two based on Dak and that offense and I think Auburn will fix its problems quickly. Both teams were overwhelmed when the pressure was on when in the first half when it mattered. The difference is that LSU became conservative in the State game and allowed the offense to dink and dunk and wear on the defense in the second half and that appeared to be due to relaxed pressure in 4th quarter. We didn't see that in the Auburn game and the offense continued to attack and the defense kept pressing until the game was well in hand. I like the LSU defense and believe it will be a special season for them and if we can stay healthy on offense, this team could go all the way!

I agree with this a 100% The only way to stop the type of offense LSU has this season is to win your one on one matchups with the line and FB. You have to have the studs in your front 7 pure and simple, there is no "scheme" that will give you an advantage.

As far as I have seen in the SEC this year, the only teams that have the personel to possibly do this are Bama and GA, along with possibly FLA and Ole Miss. With the exception of GA, we ran on all these teams just fine last year and I see no reason to doubt we won't be able to this year as well.

Our blocking is much improved this year and I think there are a lot of future DB's on our schedule that are shaking in their cleats at the prospect of facing us!

Really enjoyed your post; thanks.

R. Jefferson just flat out killing it. I agree about DT and think he needed a game or two to shake off rust from injury. Was good to see him looking 2014ish.

Herron: it's obvious he is adored by his teammates and coaches. I think Boutte and FH work their butts off at practice and do every single thing the coaches ask of them. Miles has singled them out in his remarks and made us anticipate greatness. For some reason it hasn't translated to game day until Herron's huge play Sat. So happy for him.
