UPDATE **** NCAA Rules Allow Review of Targeting Suspensions in Second Half
Posted by Macavity92 on 10/23/18 at 3:42 pm942
This is from the NCAA rule book on Targeting. It allows for a review and overturning of a suspension.
Update: I have now learned that LSU was told that this rule does not apply due to the existence of the instant replay. The rule does say that. However, it seems odd that in one instance the instant replay booth --- the conference --- makes the call and in another it is the national boys.
If a player is disqualified in the second half, the conference has the option to consult the national coordinator of football officials who would then facilitate a video review.
Based on the review, if and only if the national coordinator concludes that the player should not have been disqualified, the conference may vacate the suspension. If the national coordinator supports the disqualification, the suspension for the next game will remain.
NCAA Rule Book --- See page FR-89

I don't know. It seems as if the SEC is saying there is no appeal. That does not seem to be true. If the National Coordinator had ruled it targeting you would think there would have been a new statement to that effect.

discussed previously....
Firstly, SEC isn't going to do shite for us.
Secondly, the SEC isn't going to do that to themselves.

If I am Joe Alleva I am holding a press conference to say that there is an avenue of appeal and that the conference refused to access it. You can imagine what the press would do then.
Although, first, I would tell the SEC the date and time of the PC and give them until then to make the appeal.

The key word in the rule is “may” the conference doesn’t have to do anything. Apparently there is no appeal process for the SEC. I’m assuming this caveat would only apply to conferences that have some sort of appeal process.

The way I understand this rule is
so don’t expect Sankey to do anything

The conference has to initiate the appeal to the NCAA.
They ain't.
They ain't.

Right. If it read, "The NCAA has he option to..." then we might...MIGHT have something to work with. But the SEC is no more going to ask for oversight than any other Banana Republic would.

He was a referee for years in the SEC. These referees do not make enough just from college football to survive. They need real jobs......and payoffs from Bama.
But there is no way the head of officials should be an alumnus of a school in the conference. Absolutely ludicrous.
