We must sweep the series in Alabama this weekend. With Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Auburn up afterward it’s going to be tough. We’re at 11 SEC wins, a lot of folks on this forum say 20 is the magic number to get a National Seed. The way I see it we need to pick up 3 wins this weekend to give us a chance to hit 20.

Agreed. A sweep means we would need to win each of the remaining series to hit 20 (or sweep someone if we drop a series).

Playing at Arkansas is always tough, so yea I’d say if we can take three from a very unimpressive Alabama team we will be in great shape.

We have now finally hit the point of it being go time for this baseball team. This is the point where we usually starting winning a whole lot of baseball games. Lucky for us, it comes at a time when we play the worst baseball team in the SEC.

I'm not going to say that we absolutely should sweep, on the road, at Bama. That's no easy task, no matter who you are playing. I will be slightly disappointed without taking 3. We really need 3 this weekend before heading down that final stretch.

I expect 2 of 3. 19-11 will get you a national seed this year. With that said, i am expecting 18-12 and a regular host spot

I'm hoping for:

3-0 vs Bama
2-1 vs Arkansas
2-1 vs ole Miss
2-1 vs Auburn

That would be really tough though, and would mean we are playing better ball than we have all season. We have seen it happen many times though.

A more realistic outlook would be

2-1 vs Bama
1-2 vs Arkansas
2-1 vs Ole Miss
2-1 vs Auburn

That would give us 18, and probably locked in to a regional host. Would be tough to get a national seed from that spot. Maybe would have to win the tourney to get back into the conversation.

If we fall inbetween that number, with 19 and we have a good tournament, we can get in the conversation for a national seed. A lot of that will depend on what other teams do.

Hopefully we have some good luck with injuries for a change. Maybe Dugas will come back and be one of the much needed right handed bats we are lacking. Perhaps Garza can pick steam from here forward, too.

I don’t EXPECT to sweep anyone, even Bama, but I think with good fortune, winning the last four series is doable. We seem to own Arkansas where ever we play them. This year has been more of a roller coaster ride than usual. This is the stretch where we find out who this team really is.

I think I’d be happy enough with these results

Agree. That Missouri series killed them. I had them sweeping that series.

Nobody said be "happy" with it, but coming out with pitch forks because you lose 2 of 3 at Arkansas, who is a really good team, would be unwarranted.

Do we actually have an expected return date for dugas? What about Storz? Thought he was supposed to be coming back around this time too. Also need Watson, Reed, Hess... Marceaux would be nice too. Damn we have a ton of injuries this year.

the best thing that happened this weekend was Mathis and Hughes out of the lineup and Garza actually looked competent throwing out runners.

Broussard is heating up which is good.
Reid back at 3rd
Watson back at CF
Garza needs to continue to C

Mix in Bianco, Willis and DiGiacomo and they should be fine.
Hughes can be late inning defensive replacement.

I don't know if there is anything official on Dugas, but this weekend should be the time. I don't know if he will actually play, but he should be available.

Nothing official, but he started throwing off the mound a few weeks back. If he had no set backs, and is looking good in pens, then maybe we see him on a short stint soon. I don't know though.

Watson and Reid can probably both play if needed. However, they will not be 100% for no telling how long. Both of their injuries will feel fine until they try to push it, and then it will resurface. Best case is that we don't need either of them against Bama, and they can come back the following weekend. Hess has been saying he was fine, and I think he showed it this weekend. I'm just guessing, but I would expect him starting hopefully Saturday against Bama.

Some injury updates from Paul Mainieri:

- Brock Mathis is fine. He chose to catch Saul Garza today.
- Gavin Dugas is on track to return next weekend. Paul didn’t even rule out him doing something in the midweek
- Nick Storz is throwing bullpen sessions, but no timeline

Also: Paul said that Jaden Hill “is not close” to returning. Sounds like some kind of setback or just a general lack of progress

I will update this afternoon if anything new comes out

Sweeping on the road is hard. Even when the opponent is a shitty Alabama team. With that said if Hess is back and the bats stay alive it could definitely be done.

I don’t think they get to 20 sec wins tho. I can see 18-19 which should be plenty to host a regional. Hosting a super will depend on how they play in the tournament. Imo anyway.

As I recall we've learned from past seasons that the NCAA baseball tournament selection committee only considers tournament results as of Saturday, the next to last day of the SEC tournament (semi-finals).

They make their selections Sunday afternoon before all of the conference tournaments finish on Sunday.

I agree. Sweep Bama to have a good shot at our high aspirations of national seed.

Missouri series loss was a big blow to those plans.

After Bama:

Host Ole Miss
@Arkansas
Host Auburn

Going 6-3 over those would be great and really boost the RPI.

I know Paul loves his defense, but at this point any non-catcher in the lineup batting in the 100s should be sitting.
