His emergence has actually allowed us to move him into the slot next to stamps and zy on pasisng downs to cover the shifty slot wr which has allowed major burns to not only have to cover those type of guys consistently but lets burns do what he does best which is blitz.

Can’t emphasize this enough. A lot of people think it’s easy to play people where they are best at. But when your roster is depleted of versatile DBs, sometimes you gotta go with what you got. Which is why we’ve seen Sage Ryan at boundary corner and Burns in the slot and it’s been a nightmare. The emergence of the young DBs and getting Zy back has allowed us to shift out other players to their natural positions where they are most effective. Just look at the last few weeks and how they have played as a unit.

Perfectly said. Our lack of depth in pass seasons has had a detrimental impact on guys like burns and Ryan. It forced them to play positions their skillsets didn’t fit simply because we didn’t have the depth in those positions. Sage Ryan never had any business being an outside corner but last year may have been one of the least talented LSU cornerback rooms so sage was forced to play there. Burns never had the cover skills to man slot receivers or range to be a free safety at the SEC level but once again depth at rhe time was week there so we had no choice but to play him there. With young guys emerging at safety and cb in stamps, woodland and spears, it has allowed us to move the vets to their more natural positions and allow them to play their true games

He’s playing more of a slot corner role now.

We ran mostly zone all night vs Arkansas.

Is that the guy who was a wr/ath and everyone said he was too small to be a cb currently but some local assessment all said he was the best cb in the state just way to light to start as a freshman

Then he was the only one who played well. After re-watching the game, it was even more obvious how bad our secondary covers people. TAMU was throwing to wide open receivers in the middle of the field for most of the night.
