Two straight opponents under 60pts…
Posted by Ampipe96 on 11/12/21 at 10:27 pm531
When’s the last time we did that?? I think as this team continues to grow and the young guys get some experience, we are gonna be hell on wheels come March!!! BootUp!!!!
The points scored are obviously inflated due to non conference competition. Each season in Novemeber, LSU scores points in the 80's and 90's against weaker opponents. Come SEC time and against stronger Quad 1 opponents, the offensive output decreases.
The talent does suggest another invitation to the big dance in March and possibly a top5 finish in the SEC.

He posted about the defense and you replied about the offense. Are you stupid or just special?

Dude - You been living under a rock? In recent history, we play these games close and even drop a couple early ones.

Wow! Our fans are ignorant when it comes to basketball.

Going to be an unpopular opinion probably, but for the style of defense LSU plays they are much better defensively without Reid on the court.

Not only does this seem wrong in the hypothetical world where it's at all relevant to the OP, I feel like its stark irrelevance to the question asked deserves some sort of special attention.

It’s going to depend on matchups with Reid but you’re right, vs smaller quicker teams he doesn’t move well enough. However we will be facing teams with guys like Wesley Kessler and Jabari Smith Jr. at Auburn, Colin Castleton at Florida, Garrison Brooks and Josh Gray at State, Oscar Tshiebwe at Kentucky among others so we will need him to log big minutes and improve his footwork. Last year productive big men like Castleton and Dickinson killed us so while maybe Reid isn’t an immediate star he’s going to play a important role for us on both ends.

There you go using facts and logic. There is no room for that on the Rant. :)

I wouldn’t say unpopular, just flawed. If a team plays slow, or has a size mismatch down low then he becomes the answer we haven’t had in a long time. But when we are in a full court press and trying to make deflections and cut off the base line, then I agree with you. His defensive role should be as a counter.

From The Advocate...
quote:
LSU forced Texas State into five shot-clock violations and 16 total turnovers.
The Tigers also blocked five shots in the second half after getting just one in the first half, and they came up with seven steals for the game.

It’s really early but I don’t remember seeing our defense this good in a long time. We have some long athletic guys that seem to have the want to this year. Very active and aggressive in some sets. Could do without the Gaines bombs on the other end of the court but he brings a lot of athleticism on defense and rebounding.

Everything is relative. When you play lesser teams, there are certain things you want to see aside from just winning and scoring a lot of points. You want to be efficient, you want to see everyone contribute in a meaningful way (showing signs of quality depth), you want to dominate the boards, and you want to dominate defensively (something LSU has not previously in Wade's tenure, very often, no matter who the opponent is).
We are seeing all of those things. It doesn't matter who the opponent is, if you don't have the effort and execution on the defensive end, you can't just "out-athlete" teams on that end, like you can on the offensive end. The improvement on defense is easy to see. Now, as competition goes up, we'll see how they adjust to different styles and better players, but this isn't a defense that's going to get walked all over, even on a bad night. You're going to have to make some tough shots against them.
