Infielders Zach Arnold and Zack Mathis have signed with LSU. Both players were previously signed with other schools but granted releases from their National Letters of Intent.
Arnold had originally signed to played for Oregon. He was drafted in the 34th round of the MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles.
Mathis played last season at San Joaquin Delta College, a JUCO in California, and was originally signed to play for Cal State Northridge. Mathis was a 38th round draft pick of the Minnesota Twins and hit .351 with 10 home runs and 66 RBI during his sophomore season.
Apparently LSU baseball has a 2 Zach(k) minimum.

Both are infielders that have played all 3 infield positions.

And they have to have at least one 5'6" inch infielder.

I wonder why no outlets reported their commitments for at least a week after they went public.
And 2 weeks after it was figured out here.

Neither of these 2 infielders are 5'6"

I like it. Tigers needed at least 1 more solid infielder IMO.

My bad.. Mathis is 5'8"
We just signed a kid that can play 2nd, 3rd, or Short and was drafted by the Twins as a Catcher, but you're going to bitch about his height?
After a season when our best every day player was the shortest guy in the line up?

Project, how are these guys doing in summer ball? I don’t even know how to find what league they’re in

It doesn't look like Mathis is playing anywhere this summer. I found stats for him from a few previous years yesterday that I'm trying to track down now.
Arnold is playing for the Lincoln Potters in the California Collegiate League. Stats The link may take you to the team stats, he's hitting .333 with 6 XBH in 15 hits.

Are you surprised?

All three infield positions? Could have sworn there were four!

Dont think either of these guys are SEC short stops, both had poor fielding percentages there. I would guess stiff competition for 3B/2B.

I think they'll be immediate competition for the 3B and 2B as you said, it adds depth and addresses a need.
Doughty or Hughes will be at SS next year.

Maybe, JUST MAYBE, Mainieri is looking to field a team of all Zachs - this would go perfect with his all right-handed pitching staff.
