I was reading an article about Harris and came across this line:

quote:

He’s set to be just the seventh true freshman to get a starting nod at the position for LSU in the modern era.

I've been researching football stats sites trying to find the other 6 and I'm having trouble completing the list. (Thanks to MOT for solving the puzzle)

7. Harris 2014
6. Jennings 2013
5. Jefferson 2008
4. Tyler 1995
3. Melvin Hill 1994
2. Howard 1992
1. Ensminger 1976

Also of note:

Total Touchdowns
'76 Ensminger... 0
'92 Howard.........2
'95 Tyler.............7
'08 Jefferson......5
'13 Jennings........3
'14 Harris.........9

Does Harris have the record for most touchdowns by an LSU true freshman QB?

RP was a redshirt sophomore that year. He redshirted in 2005, was 3rd string behind Russell and Flynn in 2006.

Hodson was a Redshirt freshman in 1986.

Looks like you're right

Melvin Hill, a true freshman with no prior college experience, started the game

October 8, 1994. A 42-18 loss at #1 Florida.

He also started the purple pants game at Kentucky in 95 as a sophomore, then finished his career as an H-back.
