Troy Aikman started with a terrible team too

The Cowboys were bad in the years prior to drafting Troy Aikman, and, in fact, only won one game his rookie year. The Bengals, as an organization, will have to be creative, but it is possible.

BTW: I know they can't do the same thing the Cowboys did to fix the problem which is to get a gazillion top round draft picks for an overrated Steve Walsh and a washed up Herschel Walker, but the possibility is there.

Problem is that Jerry Jones will spend every $$$$ he can to win a championship, while Bengals ownership is known for being cheap

Mike Brown is not Jerry Jones. That’s the problem. Mike Brown is a goddamn tumor.

Aikman wouldn’t be a Hall of Famer based on stats. He’s a Hall of Famer because of the team he played on.
With that said, I don’t trust Cincy to be smart enough to surround Joe with the same type talent Aikman had.

Troy had one of the BEST head coaches of all time & the resources of 11 picks from the Hershel Walker trade to help build around him.

Joe is not that lucky

Problem is even though they knew they were getting a no1 QB and a very good one they did nothing to improve the roster. Last years roster had more talent. Bengals needed to upgrade pass protection and run defense. Josh Bynes? A below average, light in the arse coverage LB? 3 corners? That’s gonna help an anemic run D? You don’t sign a single Olineman? Oh yea Suh-Filo, a guy who couldn’t play in front of a bust rookie guard in Dallas. Zac Taylor is a bum and the front office is listless.

Saints were the first team to abuse Aikman

When Aikman was a rookie there was no free agency. The Bengals have a way to get better. The question is, how bad does Mike Brown want to win ?

If they finish with a top 5 pick they should trade down and pick up more o linemen and wr's. If somehow they finished with one win like Troy did his rookie season, they could get a kings ransom for Trevor Lawrence or even Justin Fields.

Different owner, different coach and no salary cap. Totally different time in the NFL that cannot be compared to today’s NFL.

Pardon my ignorance, but can NFL rookie contracts be bought out before the end of that contract period?

that is to say-could a Denver, Dallas, Pittsburgh, etc come in at the end of this or even next season & offer up a buy-out or mega trade?

Can you imagine what kind of life JB9 would have in a top flight NFL program with a massive fan base that is used to/expects to win, unlike Cincy...wow

You're actually going to compare the Cowboy's team of that era to the Bengals? JFC......

How bad did Mike Brown want to win when he had the #1 draft pick and the Heisman winning QB Carson Palmer?

Big difference, Jimmy Johnson and his vision of the NFLs future and Minnesota thinking Herschel Walker could win them a super bowl.
