So, how do you like this hire?

I respect your opinion.

I like it. I don't think any of the guys who were rumored were can't miss guys.

I honestly didn't know much about Johnson today. Everything I read says he's a very good basketball mind which is something we've been missing for a while.

I'll be interested to see how he recruits. I've heard conflicting info on that. If he can bring along a great recruiter then I can't see us doing much better than Johnson.

I heard that he wasn't am amazing recruiter but part of that had to do with the fact he was recruiting players to come to Stanford which is tough. He isn't going to be a guy who is going to be a rah rah guy. He feels that the performance on the court should speak for itself. He was allegedly only making 600,000-700,000 at Stanford. He was wanting a new deal done but Stanford was stalling. He may make almost double what he made there. It had to be mostly a financial move considering he's a lifelong west coast guy

In Johnson's first season on The Farm, he displayed his leadership and acumen in the face of adversity as Stanford dealt with a season-ending injury to its leading scorer while having only nine healthy players able to compete at the end of the year

Sounds familiar but with a different outcome...

Looks to be a promising hire.

i guess we couldn't get Grant, didn't want Pierre, so we just went for the next black coach on the list?

did we interview any white guys?

the search firm is racist.

Does anyone know who we really considered, who we interviewed and who made this decision on this candidate?

As a solid supporter of LS basketball, I am very disappointed with this decision to hire Trent Johnson. I am not impressed with his resume at Stanford, and I believe that we could have reached deeper into the money bag to find a better coach. I watched his little tirade that almost cost him a win in the NCAA tourney this year. With this hire, I believe we have another John Brady situation brewing. Does LSU officials expect us to believe that this was the best hire available? Please don't insult my intelligence. Is this a rush to judgment? Absolutely! We are just 2 days removed the NCAA championship, and we make this hire! I think I am going to puke!

What makes you think LSU could have done any better? We hired an average basketball coach for an average basketball program. To think we could have done better is naive.

He's a west coast guy, so he won't be here long. If he does well, someone out west will hire him. If he doesn't, we'll fire him. 3 or 4 years max.

I hate this kind of thinking. We could have had just about any coach in the country if you cough up the money. That's the way to rise above being an average basketball program.

Now if you're saying we're average because the administration chooses to be average, then I'd agree with that.

This hire sounds to me like we got one of the best guys out there for the price range we were willing to pay (ie, Brady-type money). I would prefer that we went after the best coach possible, no matter what it took.

I hate this kind of thinking. First of all, the idea that we could have ANY coach if we just pay up is ridiculous to begin with. But even if that obviously false statement were true, what makes you think LSU has the money to cough up? We're paying Miles almost 4 million a year. Louisiana is not a wealthy state, so LSU is not one of the wealthier universities, and we don't have a wealthy alum base compared to other major schools.

If every university could just "cough up" money, every school would have great coaches in every sport. I have been very impressed and a little surprised by LSU's willingness and ability to spend money recently, but to assume we can just come up with money to sign a top tier B-Ball coach is naive.

If Alleva can raise the kind of revenue he did at Duke, maybe we'll be in a position to do that in a few years if TJ doesn't work out, but this guy is a great hire at this point IMO. If you would have told me when we fired Brady that we would get a coach with 4 NCAA tourney appearances and two sweet 16 runs in 5 years, coming off of a #11 ranking THIS YEAR from a PAC 10 school, a REALLY good basketball conference, not a mid major, I would have said you were crazy.
