Are you kidding me? I'd like to see the link on that. Stanford officials, fans and players loved this guy. He was/is a great recruiter and achieved some great things there.

Stacey Johnson at Fresno. It was a really big mess, that supposedly also involved all kinds of fun stuff like providing prescription drugs to the players and an affair.

Agreed. I really don't see what people were expecting. We don't have the money to go and get a top name guy, and this guy has had AT LEAST as much success, in a better conference, than Grant, Ford, or any of the other names thrown around as favorites.

I really don't get this point. The Lopez twins were pretty big recruits, no? I mean, sure he doesn't have the pull of Coach K, Petino, Calipari, Donovan, Williams, or some of the other top name guys, but who the hell do you think we are? We weren't going to get a coach like that anyway. Are you saying that you think Grant or Ford would have automatically been able to bring in a guy like Monroe? I seriously doubt it.
LSU has A LOT of building to do to get us to a point where the #1 player in the country would want to come here, and I think TJ has the ability to help us do that.

no. It was just a random comment. Overall, I like what he's done elsewhere. If you can do something like that at Nevada, you probably know what you're doing.

here is a list of guys that make a player go wow.
Brad Stevens-Butler
Jim Larranaga- George Mason
Jay Wright-Nova
Sean Miller- Xavier
Mike Brey- ND
Phil Martelli-St. Joe's
I know Miller and Jay Wright would be long shots at best. you can't tell me Larranaga or Brey would love the LSU job.

I'm not doubting you, in fact I'm glad to hear it from someone a little closer to the situation, but if that is true then why didn't Stanford give him a contract extension already?

When LSU first fired Brady, how many of you had TJ in your top 10 for possible hires?
I have to admit he was not on my radar for some reason..but I do like the hire. I think he will provide stability and a good foundation to rebuild the bball program.
Ya..I wanted Grant, but the more I read about this guy..the more I like him. I didnt realize he had so many injury problems early on at Stanford among other things. And his turning around the Nevada program in 4 years (sweet 16) cannot be dismissed. It means that once he got his own players firmly established in his program..they were very successful.

How would Brey make a recruit go "wow"? Johnson's resume is just as good as his if not better.
