Whether he knows it or not, he has been trashing Ochinko for the last 4 innings. Repeating over and over how our approach at plate is awful.

He’s right. We don’t ever change our approach based on the flow of the game or a scouting report on a pitcher. We literally go up there hunting for meat fastballs early in the count every single batter and every single game. We always look like fools on good curveballs and change ups. It is what it is.

He’s absolutely right, too. Even though he is an alum, he is also a commentator doing his job and he’s being honest. They have a very poor approach that needs to be addressed.

Todd has not only his knowledge but also experience of coaching travel ball teams. Has to get the players to do what he knows is right. Used to watching players doing something wrong and fixing it. Same for Ben.

It's safe to say he knows more than Ochinko.

Walker is more qualified than both Ochinko and Gibbs to be a hitting coach

I made a similar comment in the in game thread and the thread on BA bullshite by another poster. This team is far from the #4 hitting club in the conference considering all metrics. Hitting with a man on first and 1 out. Hitting with a runner on third and less than 1 out. Baserunning. Just look at the OBP vs BA for the everyday players. That’s what Walker is referring to. This team doesn’t walk or strike out. They are aggressive early in counts and don’t work the opposing pitcher no matter who it is. If they hit a few ground balls and fly ball outs, they are still outs and count the same as a K.
Tonight they will not have a chance to walk very much and watch them try to do so. It’ll be a masterpiece by Mize if they don’t get their shite together and hit some inside pitches. The problem is, Mize will work both sides of the plate and up and down.
He has Nola command or better.

Lol at you guys who think Ochinko decides our approach. Mainieri decides that. He believes in fastball hunting from the first pitck on. It was the same strategy under our last three pitching coaches.

Working the count probably is very effective against travel ball pitchers, but try that in the SEC and see where it gets you. Todd Walker succeeded because of his great talent. Lot’s of different approaches work if you’re that good.

On a different subject, he doesn’t have an expressive voice, but I thought he did quite well in the booth.
