Tigers Still Underrated
Posted by SeanLSU

After tonight's games, LSU at 9-0 sits at #2 in the NET rankings, the ones that should impact the tournament the most.
NET
BPI is not yet updated with today's games, so we're still 8-0 in those rankings and sit at #12 overall (some teams ahead of us lost, so these should change).
BPI
Even taking the currently lower BPI ratings with us at 12, that should place us around a 3 seed in the tournament. However, Bracketology still shows us as a 5-seed as of 12/10/21 (at the time it posted we were also #2 NET and #12 BPI):
Bracketology
Of course, the media pollsters are also undervaluing us with just a #25 ranking after starting 8-0 and being only one of 8 teams in the country to reach that record to start the season. Now we are one of seven teams at 9-0 and a few of the SEC darlings in the rankings ahead of us took an L today, so things may change a bit. We'll see.
For comparison, Bracketology has Arkansas at a 4-seed, the polls had them at 12(AP)/10(Coaches) despite their BPI being only 32 and their NET being only 42 at the time Bracketology posted (they dropped to 67 NET after their loss).

Newest polls we will probably jump up to about 20-21 range. Looking at some metrics I think our most likely seed is a #3 seed right now. Our final 4 odds are skyrocketing.

To be fair, our first 7 SEC games are really what will determine our altitude this season, and we all know that. But it's just mindboggling how willfully ignorant the media chooses to be with regards to what this team has accomplished so far.

I have enjoyed what I have seen so far from this team, especially on defense for once.
I will hold my judgement until we start playing ranked teams. Yeah we’ve played some teams that usually go to the tournament, but let’s be real. Ohio, Belmont, GT are not great teams. Definitely heading into the right direction, but I ain’t gonna beat my chest until we play like this vs auburn and Alabama.

Mostly because of strength of out of conference schedule. Just wait until after we play through January and see where we stand. I see the Tigers 12-0 entering the SEC against Auburn 12-29-21.
Way too early to worry about standings and seeding for the NCAA tournament. Winning will take care of everything.
Pomeroy college basketball ratings has
LSU at #13
LA Monroe at #244
Texas St at #141
Liberty at #126
McNeese at #326
Belmont at #54
Penn St at #83
Wake Forest at #57
Ohio at #104
Georgia Tech at #96
The defense is smothering and good, this scrappy team will win some SEC games

Baylor, Arkansas, and UK all have worse SOS ranking than us. Just food for thought.

This is what they are waiting for. It is likely the perception that LSU hasn’t really played a great outside shooting team that is equal in athleticism. For the most part, that is true. In my opinion, they are ranked about where they need to be based on the lack of shooting depth.
Most people are projecting the end of the season when more talented teams have enough time to improve by continuing to play together like UK usually does. Where LSU may not have as high of a ceiling because of their one glaring weakness - the inability to shoot from the perimeter.
Let’s see how that first pass through the SEC schedule goes before we start projecting 2-5 seeds.

Top 10 maybe. Top 5 kind of needs a body of work greater than beating 1 ranked team.
Again, Baylor is a good example. Worse SOS ranking than us and has yet to play a ranked team. Granted they play Nova today.

Would be the first time since the 1999-00 season that LSU went undefeated in OOC play. Of course we’d still need to win the Big 12/SEC Challenge game against TCU in the middle of conference play to finish undefeated.

It’s funny how everyone complains about the rankings and say they do t matter so why are we concerned with the so called “ranked” teams we are playing if the ranking system is not valid?!!! Maybe they shouldn’t be ranked so they may not be good at all.

I just hope they start showing the games. I can't catch them even on SEC network.

As many have said before polls in bball don’t really matter especially this early. But I agree that LSU is under-rated. But it’s not a new phenomenon by any means. In fact I joked in another thread that LSU could get to 30 wins and still get a 6th seed in the tourney. Of course I’m exaggerating a bit but I’ve see. LSU teams over the years get poor seeds considering their records.

You can watch them all on ESPN+. If you have access to SECN you should have access to ESPN+

Nope. You can have SECN through your cable provider but you have to subscribe to ESPN+.
Maybe you’re thinking SECN+? In which case you’re correct.

While none of that matters now it is what it is. My concern is the obvious flaws and how WW keeps the harmony while reigning in the ill advised 3’s This team has special traits that will carry them far. But shot selection and protecting the ball will be the deciding factor . I’m ready to continue the ride .
