One of the better LSU bigs that then came thru in the past few years. I know some of you enjoyed those blocks and put back dunks

It was such a disgrace that team didn't go further than it did. They were legit

Simmons with Mickey and Martin would be the GOAT. legit final four team right there. Those few years were such a waste

Yeah that sounds like that would of been a good Trio. Most of Johnny Jones coached teams were underachieving

I honestly thought Mickey and Martin were coming back. They should have never left. Could have won a title if hey stayed.

A team with Martin, Mickey, and Simmons would have been unreal.

Quarterman
Blakeney
Hornsby

I don’t see how Johnny didn’t convince them to stay. They would have upped their draft stock and potential exponentially by playing with Simmons. They must have hated Johnny.

Only if Will Wade was coaching that team. But we got a damn good team now tho. Geaux Tigers.

Well, they both got drafted. Martin in the first round, and he is still in the league with a $1.2 million salary. Mickey in the second round and he played in the league for a little while and is now overseas. He is a classic tweener, so I’m not sure staying a year at LSU would have ultimately changed much for him.

They were a great duo at LSU, but the frustrating thing about that last season is that they peaked at different times. Mickey started really strong, but finished weak (he later claimed he was playing through an injury). Whereas Martin finally turned into a beast we had all been waiting for during the latter part.

If they would have stayed to play with Simmons, I think even Johnny Jones wouldn’t have screwed it up. It would have allowed Simmons to play his natural position, instead of down low. One of the main problems with that Simmons team was the complete lack of depth down low and how it affected how we had to use him.
